So my QP's cuttlebone fell in his drinking water. Does it need to be replaced entirely or will it be fine if I let it dry? Similarly, what do I do if poop gets on these things?

Just pop it the sun and dry it out. As to pooping on it, if it is close to an edge then you can break it off. I have the cuttlebone close to the branch in the cockatiels' cage (Shah doesn't like it) so their bottoms are usually pointed in the opposite direction. However, if it isn't a runny poop, you can probably wipe it off but I would dig out that area. Alternatively just replace it.

Bonnie won't even look at cuttlefish, let alone nibble it. But for my canaries I've often scraped the 'bad' bit on/with a rough surface and it comes off fine, with perfectly good clean cuttle underneath.

The tiels love to poop on their cuttlebone for some reason. Freddie is also prone to pooping in his water, though. I just scrub it off. Some cuttlebone will come off, too, but that won't hurt anything.

Cupcake has absolutely no interest in cuttlebone, so I stopped putting it in her cage years ago...

Ralph doesn't pay much attention to his cuttlebone either. I usually attach it to the outside of his transport cage, which normally serves as a "front porch" for his big cage-- he Quaker-cursed it when I put it on his big cage. Occasionally, Ralph will go to it and take a small bite from it. George the YCA used to bite off big chunks of his cuttlebones (I always bought the biggest ones I could find for George) and deposit them, one at a time, in his drinking water. I'd usually take them out and let them dry, and put one at a time in his food dish. He would chew on the cuttlebone chunks then until there was nothing left of them.

The tiels use theirs a lot and also calcium chews and they're pretty much the only ones.
