Hello all, first I want to apologize if I'm breaking any rules by making a thread before introducing myself. I registered here specifically to have a place where I can receive help for my bird, and right now I'm rather concerned for her health. My quaker is two years old and has been healthy for the entire time we've had her (until now it seems). She's lost some of her feathers under her chin area, revealing the skin underneath which appears to be red. She's also had slight feather loss under her wings, but not much. As of today, she's started to lose some of her feathers on her feet, her left foot being the most affected as it is very red and raw. She also appears to be trembling and seems hesitant to step up on my finger and shoulder even though she's always done so when prompted.
I'm not really sure what could have caused this. I thought she was just molting at first, but now I'm wondering if she got bitten by a fly or mosquito (she's often been brought outside for a change of view) or maybe gotten mites. I'm not too sure on the latter since I haven't spotted anything on her affected areas, but I can't be sure. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could give me remedies to treat her skin with, I hate seeing her like this.

I'd hesitate to recommend a treatment without knowing the cause of the problem. A visit to your avian vet would be a good idea, so that the exact problem can be determined, along with the proper treatment.

I agree with Gary. She needs to be seen by an avian vet. You don't want to experiment with different treatments, not knowing what the problem is.
By the way, if she picked up red mites, you would not see them on her during the day. It could be one of a large number of things going on with her, but I would take her in as soon as possible.
Do you have an avian vet?

Yeah, I would strongly recommend getting her to a vet. Unfortunately there's no way we can really know what the problem is specifically... It sounds like it could be getting quite serious, so I would not delay in getting her to an avian vet as soon as you possibly can.

Poor little thing. If you have access to a vet I would definitely recommend that. In the meantime I do not think that mites or fleas can swim so I would try a good soaking bath. If there are fleas or mites, you would see them in the water and that might help knowing what exactly is going on. Best wishes
