hi guys my name is Nora, and this is my baby girl Jet! i got her when she was 3 weeks old from a breeder and apparently not a good breeder because she wasnt obviously ready to be sold since she isnt weaned but before i got her i did lost of research to learn how to care for her and well 9 weeks later Jet is all big and strong! shes still a baby and i do occasionally hand feed her at night as her vet directed. Im trying to get her to wean i dont want her to create any bad habits.

Welcome Nora and Jet!! Jet looks like a total cutie! I don't know much about weaning personally but I am glad to hear things are going well so far!

I wouldn't try to rush weaning, she'll tell you when she doesn't need formula anymore. It could be anytime between now and 12 weeks or so. Are you introducing her to a variety of foods now?

Welcome Nora and Jet! She does look like a sweetheart. I would echo Dani. I have never weaned a parrot, but know people with African greys who continue to give a bit of formula long after the "official" weaning. It's a bonding thing. I think it's really only a problem if it's a problem for you.

A quaker parrot is not fully weaned until it can crack a seed. Even if we don't intend to feed seed in the future, unless the bird can use the beak and tongue well enough to crack seed, there can be other chewing-related problems could develop in the future. You can introduce other soft foods such as pasta, oatmeal and rice. These warm foods will be comfort foods and will enhance your bond with the bird. Eventually the bird will refuse anything that seems like baby food.
Welcome to the forum and it seems you are on the right track by doing your research.
