My husband is from Madrid, but he hasn't been there in many years. I lived in Belgium for two years, but only saw Spain from the Madrid airport.

I guess Canada doesn't count eh? I think we are all from various parts of the world which makes this forum so interesting.

My ancestry is mostly European (a combination of Welsh, French and German), but I was born and lived my whole life (so far ) in the United States. I used to listen to the shortwave radio broadcasts of Radio Nederland and took their "Dutch by Radio" course, but can't remember much of what I learned. It seems to me we do have some Forum members from Europe-- France, England and Ireland come to mind-- and, as Julianna said, there are Forum members from all over the world. Meeting people from so many different places is one of the many things I enjoy about the Forum.

Hi, I'm new to the board but wanted to reply. We saw so many wild Quaker parrots on a visit to Barcelona several years ago that when we brought home a Quaker shortly after we named him Gaudi. Many people don't get the reference, but we have fond memories of Quaker watching in the parks there.

Not much excuse for not getting a reference with the internet so close at hand. Of course I didn't get it, either, but can now say I assume you must be referring to the famous Barcelona architect.

I figured the OP would get the reference since they were referring to Spain. :-)
