Whoa, that's unreal...I'm glad your vet knew to investigate further! Hope your other little masters/mistresses (including His Royal Rudeness) go well with their X-Rays.

A good bird doc is worth his/her weight in gold. It might actually save you money in the long run, to have someone recognize the likely problems before running a bunch of tests. So glad you got to the bottom of it all. What does "flushing" entail? Dare I ask? You're a good bird mom, Jan. I'll bet even Shah would concede that in one of his calmer moods.

Flushing is just like drenching. They syringe liquid down the throat to help remove the blockage. I had it done once when Rebel was egg bound and it worked quite well. When I was changing the cockatiels cage around yesterday, Spike flew out and hit the window twice. He has a slightly swollen head and some missing feathers so keeping a close eye on him at the moment. Shah is screaming for me all the time - I don't know why - I spend time with him and he seems fine and then pop him back in his cage and he starts screaming again. He may be upset that the cockatiels' cage is changed around. At least the dog isn't giving me a hard time

Shah has been a horror all day. When it was play time tonight he wouldn't stop biting and beak bashing me. Yep, facing the joy of hormones again. Even though I have put him to bed, if he hears my voice, he screams out. Pippin's feathers are a little closer to his body tonight and not quite as ruffled and Spike seems to be okay after his encounters with the window. Moved the newspaper out of the cockatiels' cage today so am happy that we wont have a repeat of this problem again. Thanks everyone for your good wishes for Pippin's recovery. I am really happy with his progress tonight - he is such a lovely bird. He has a sense of humour and doesn't suffer from moods like you know who. All he asks for is his head scratched - which drives Shah insane. So, to get my attention, he calls out "gotta kiss" as he knows I will get him out of his cage and kiss him and leave his Nemesis, Pippin, alone. Quakers are such jealous little critters

Oh, wow. I'm so sorry, Jan! I hope Shah and Spike are okay. Poor Pippin! Luckily you now know what's wrong, and are working to fix it.

Well, Mr Personality was in a right tizz this morning. Yelling at me and demanding to be taken out of the cage which I did and got beak bashed for my efforts. On the way to work I had an "ah-ha" moment. I changed his rope ladder on Saturday night as the other one was worn out and old. So he has a ladder that looks exactly the same except it is WHITE and not an off white colour due to washing and age. I think that is what is causing the aggro. He hates any changes in his cage.

Pippin's cultures and blood test results showed up today. There are a few things wrong but they are mild and related to the blockage. The vet did say that his immune system was very weak so will take him a while to get better. He is acting as normal and, as he is a very robust bird, think he may recover sooner than expected. The vet did say that it was a good thing that I bought him in when I did. Shah is back to his normal, obnoxious self so it is business as usual.
