I am here with a sad heart and weeks of tears after losing my beautiful 3 year old green Quaker Deno on 7th May with egg binding. I got her to the vets but the egg was so high she passed away after many attempts. Needless to say I was and am still devastated. I would like a new baby from mid to end of August as I am away for the first 2 weeks and don't want to get one before and have to leave it whilst I go away. I would like a male so I don't have to go through this again. I would also like any other colour but green. As they look so similar, it would be too heartbreaking. I live in Bournemouth and hope to find one not too far away, but willing to travel for a bird brought up by a breeder and hand fed. I may have found someone already but have to wait to see if eggs hatch, due in early July.....fingers crossed. Hope to learn lots from this site.

Sorry to meet you under such sad circumstances, but welcome to the forum. My Quaker is a male, so I don't worry about eggs with him, but my grey has laid a few over the years, and I always worry about binding. I'm very sorry about Deno. Bournemouth sounds like the UK. I'm sure we'll all look forward to the upcoming baby pictures. Baby birds are the cutest, though I might be biased.

Welcome to you. Like a couple of other members, I am in Australia. I'm very sorry about Deno. I have to admit that if I'd been more informed about quaker hormonal problems when we picked our quaker baby, we might have chosen a male instead of a female (I am actually a bit worried about the egg-laying thing). You will learn a heap from this site and everyone is very friendly and will try to help however they can.
