I was thinking about it. Pingo's favorite songs are "Don't feel like Dancin'" by the Scissor Sisters and "La Cucaracha", the real mariachi version. She knows a great portion of La Cucaracha and she sings and dances to it all of the time. She also loves to dance to "Don't Feel Like Dancin'". I haven't been able to easily find more that she likes. So, I was wondering, what are your parrots' favorite songs? I want to add to Pingo's repertoire.

I haven't found that Peppy has any absolute favorite artists, but he pays close attention to Singin' In The Rain (very appropriate for Texas lately) and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, especially if I sing it with a little gusto. I haven't tried it, but it seems to me a bird might enjoy Bingo. Simple songs.

I sing to Shah as he doesnt really care about music as such. His favourite is "How much is that Sharni in the window" as he says "Shah" when he hears his name and he kind of screams along. He also likes "Old McSharni had a farm" and bops his head and sometimes does the "baa" of the sheep. We do duck, Pippin, sheep and by the time cows come along, he is bored.

Mr P LOVES old Mcdonald had a farm, especially when I sing "with a piggy piggy here and a piggy piggy there" (instead of oink oink.
He also learned to meow like a cat from listening to that song
He doesnt much like adult music, he prefers "toddler tunes"

Ralph's favorite song is Ring-a-Ding-Ding by Frank Sinatra. He recognizes the first notes of the instrumental introduction and gets excited, then demands that I sing along with Frank. I'll sing lots of songs to him, sometimes including his name (most parrots like that) or substituting words like "parrot" or "feathers" for words in the original lyrics-- as in "I love parrots in the springtime" ( I Love Paris) or "I've got my feathers to keep me warm" ( I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm). It's silly, but Ralph enjoys it.

I think I need to play more music for Cupcake. She definitely likes listening to electronic music when I or our roommate DJ in the living room... And she does seem to like songs with a happy vibe of many genres... but I have no idea what her favorite song would be.

Bonnie hasn't really shown preference for any music/songs yet; however, she LOVES laughing at screaming women in tacky TV horror movies (as has been discussed in other threads).

I did some experimenting. Pingo loves Ring-a-Ding-Ding! She's not too big a fan of some of the other simple songs. She likes The Ants Go Marching In, and Old McDonald. I think she prefers songs with some gusto.

The little parrots enjoy upbeat music and get rather excited by the Bee Gees' disco era songs. Rocky prefers his music live and has recently shown a preference for John Denver songs, though our band is learning "Dear Future Husband" by Megan Trainor and he likes that. He didn't like it the first time he heard it. Ringo generally sits on my arm when I practice the flute and sings along, but I played the new Ringo Starr album for her the other day and she liked that a lot. i would say in general, upbeat and pop as opposed to other styles, though if you want to relax them, you can't beat classical. Lots of strings.

Hmm, I'd say you could select music according to what mood you'd like them to be in (kind of like parrot brainwashing). With humans, Mozart is always good for babies in the womb (apparently its melodic and rhythmic structure is good for their mental development and relaxes them). Gary, if Ralph likes Beethoven - excellent choice! - he possibly may be ready for some Wagner. Wagner's 'Ring Cycle' would keep him entertained for days (the original live performances used to take 3 days to perform). I understand that Wagner was also one of the first composers to employ certain note combinations/progressions/chords to elicit certain emotions from his listeners - one of 'note' (sorry! ) is the 'Tristan chord'. Nowadays, nearly every film score composer copies it, so that's why so many film scores sound similar to each other.
I must try Bonnie on 'Old MacDonald'...one has to start somewhere! I suspect, however, that she prefers the sound of her OWN voice.

I don't know about any others, but my birds don't have the attention span for Wagner. (I don't, either. ) Unless I start singing or dancing enthusiastically, most music seems to become part of the background pretty quickly.

I don't think I have the attention span for Wagner, and I would be surprised if Ralph does (he is a parrot, and parrots aren't known for long attention spans ). Someone (I've forgotten who) once said "Wagner has some wonderful moments, but some terrible quarter-hours." Maybe if we don't try to tackle a whole opera all in one sitting, it could work; there is some good music to be found in Wagner's Ring Cycle. George the YCA loved opera and naturally had to sing along, substituting his own words (such as "pretty bird") for the original ones.

Rocky has apparently developed a fondness for Megan Trainor. I barely know who she is, but Hubby found a song of hers he likes and hoped our band could do (except our 12-year-old lead singer hates it, LOL) and he was listening to it and Rocky started dancing.

Sounds like Rocky would get along with my stepdaughter

Rocky makes no bones about which music he likes and which he does not. The musicians' feelings mean nothing to him. LOL Of course, the same could be said for Chief Bird Clyde, who has been known to chomp my ear if I sing something that does not meet with his approval.
