Today I was sitting outside talking to my neighbour and Oscar was in the house on top of his cage in the kitchen. When I came in the house I had my hands full of things from the picnic table. Oscar comes walks over to greet me and I think he just missed a step and fell to the floor. He did flutter a little and landed about 3 feet from the cage but I did hear a little thump. Of course I drop everything and run to get him.
I hold his close to my chest with my right hand wrapped around his back. (This is the position he always goes into after a bath). I hold him as he closes his eyes and start panting. OMG I am scared. I sit with him in the living room ... still holding him... watching him carefully... and he closes only his left eye and still pants. He has pooped all over me 3 times which is very unusual but it is not discolored. In about 25 minutes he stirs a little and of course by this time I am crying. He starts yawning and yawning so I think he knocked the air out of himself. Still I wasn't sure.
I walk around a bit holding him and he doesn't ask me to remove my hand off his back yet. Now I am really nervous. Still he is closing his eyes and not breathing correctly. 45 minutes goes by and I manage to rub his head a little and his neck... I check out his wings and them seem to be in working order. I check his toes and they are okay. Finally I put him on one of his perches... dry my eyes... and watch carefully. He is scratching his neck and holding onto his beak... Holding the beak scares me as I am praying it is not broken.
One hour later he still has not made a sound however, he is alert and wanting to go to his cans in the cupboard. I allow him to go and he hides in the back fixing a nest he is building but still no sound. Whewww another 15 minutes goes by and I hear him calling. What a lovely sound that is.
I am sure he will be bruised a little but all parts seem to work fine... Thank you Lord.
