Hi everyone, A few months ago I visited a parrot zoo for the first time, I became totally obsessed with the clever little buggers. I did weeks of research and finally decided on a Quaker. I liked that they are playful intelligent birds. 5 days ago a brought my Quaker parrot Cheeko home. At first he was very nervous so spoke gently to him. Told him how beautiful he was etc. He's a very well behaved boy who's surprising quiet when he's in his cage. I'm working on getting him to step up so I can get him back to his cage etc (at the minute he just goes back in when he's thirsty or hungry) I've joined this forum for support at advice while training my parrot to be the wonderful pets I've heard they are!

Greetings to you and Cheeko! Sounds like things are going well so far! You are in for a treat-- these little guys are amazing little companions. Although they do make you work for it One bit of advice I think every new parrot owner should get-- learn as much about parrot hormones/hormonal behavior as you can. It will make your life easier and much less confusing when that time comes Anyhow, feel free to ask any questions you might have! Everyone here is more than happy to help. Looking forward to hearing how things progress!

Welcome to you and Cheeko as well. We sure do love our little Quakers... they can be as cuddly as a kitten or they can attack. Do not be surprised to get a little of both.
Any questions you have no matter how small.... this is an excellent place to find the answers. The people on here have helped me tremendously over the past 4 years. There are many places to do a lot of reading on here and the first place I would start is with the "good food" and "bad food".

Happy to have you and Cheeko join us on the Forum! You're off to a good start-- sitting near your parrot's cage and talking softly to him is a good way to help him get used to you and his new home. The quiet may not last long; it's pretty typical for a parrot to be quiet when first arriving in a new home. Once Cheeko begins to feel more settled in, he'll probably be more vocal. But there are quiet Quakers-- my QP Ralph is one.

Welcome from us too! I assume Cheeko is a baby? If so, how old is he now and what colour? Just curious.
