Last night, my year-old quaker parrot Lihn was sticking her tongue out funnily. Now this morning I can tell that she has a cut on it, pretty far back in her mouth (you can only see it when she tries to chew on something).
There is no blood anywhere in her cage or on her food, toys, etc. and she's eating and drinking normally, but every now and then she'll stick her tongue out and I can see the cut. I can't tell how bad it is, but I'm really, really worried.
I'm very certain this is recent, because the behavior of sticking her tongue out has never happened until yesterday evening. Her behavior is no different - she plays, she eats, she chews on my sister who she doesn't like, she whistles and chirps, all the usual stuff.
I'm going to take her to the vet as soon as possible, but it's Sunday, and tomorrow is Memorial Day. My biggest worry is infection, or that it won't heal properly. It looks pretty serious, though.
She doesn't seem to be in any immediate pain and she can eat and drink. Is it safe to wait until Tuesday to take her to the vet, or do I need to look into emergency services? Please advise quickly, I'm very nervous.

Hi Tuesday. I'm the kind of person who, if emergency services were available, I would take her in. But I've found that those services for birds are few and far between, if you're not in or near a larger city. And, if it is not still bleeding, it's probably okay to wait. I would keep her on soft foods and try to limit her activity in the meantime so she doesn't injure it further, and to reduce the risk she'll expose it to anything that might cause infection. Do you have something you can use as a hospital cage? Something that she will not be able to climb around in.

I'm not sure if emergency services are available or not, honestly. I live about an hour away from a medium size city, and I'd probably be able to find someone. I'd probably first go through a particular store who has a lot of advice on parrots and see who they recommend. Alternatively, there's a nearby college that has a pretty good department, but I doubt they'd be available until Tuesday.
I'll switch her to soft foods - that's definitely a worry, since she loves crunchy things, but they could cut her more. Would softened pellets and purried veggies work, or should I feed her something specific?
I don't have a cage that would be appropriate, but I'm going to remove her toys - I don't want her chewing more than she needs to right now. Thank you so much for the advice.

I think the softened pellets and puréed veggies would be great, as long as she will eat them. I'd also watch to be sure she's drinking water. Probably the best way to monitor that is to ensure the poops look normal overall.

I've been checking, and she's eating and drinking normally. I just mashed up some mango for her, and she ate about as much as normal. She's definitely still hydrated based on her droppings (and just managed to squeeze herself into her water bowl for an impromptu bath). She's also sitting on her perch right now, whistling the theme song from the Addam's Family (all of her vocalizations are normal).
So it looks like starvation at least isn't an issue. Infection is what I'm most worried about, but I guess there isn't much I can do until Tuesday, at which time I'll call a vet and see what they recommend. Thanks for talking me through this - at least I'm not panicking anymore.

I would also be checking out what may have caused the cut on her tongue. The vet will probably put her on a course of antibiotics to make sure she doesnt get an infection. Just take her to the vet when you are able - seems like her behaviour is okay so try not to worry too much.

More soft food that they love is macaroni... or oatmeal. Good luck.
