Right outside one of my kitchen windows (which Oscar can see at all times) there is a huge yellow tractor parked there and ready to run Monday morning. The contractors have been setting up all week as they are getting ready to dig up my entire street to change the water and sewer lines. You can imagine the commotion going on with Oscar.
There are many people dressed in bright orange, yellow and red (he hates all of these colors) and they are right outside his window. OMG some mornings it is awful as he screams to warn me of the danger. Now this tractor is there and just wait until it roars it's engines and starts digging. I think I am going to get myself some ear plugs.
It is cute to see Oscar as when he feels too close to anything outside he runs inside his cage and sits beside his favorite white cup ... lol... trying to protect it.
Wish me luck come Monday.

Can you move Oscar to another room temporarily?

Oh, Disaster! Yes, ear plugs or noise-dampening headphones might be the go... Good luck!

I think Jan has the right idea. These things can really be trauma for a bird. I think remodeling in her foster parent's home caused Allie to start plucking. I'd at least close the curtains at that window. The noise might still disturb, but it would probably help if Oscar couldn't see that.

There is construction in our apartment building in one of the retail spaces on the floor below us and for months now, Cupcake has had to endure bizzare noises at all times of day. It was definitely a bit of an issue at first but she seems unfazed by it now.

Today I am truly amazed. Oscar did not act out as much as I thought he would. There was a little scream here and there... but not as I expected. I agree that if I could move him it would be better however, that is not likely to happen as he would scream more if he could not see me. The only thing that is really spooking him is the noises and if I keep the doors closed... not so bad. Thanks for the advice and best wishes.

I hope the construction work finishes quickly and that things can return to normal for you and Oscar.

I'm glad he seems to be dealing with it okay.

Yup day two and he doesn't care about the commotion at all. Huh... he sure had me fooled. The only thing that he will scream at is if somebody turns on a cutting machine or drill.... and that never lasts long. Good Boy Oscar. (he is busy doing other things.... see follow up post lol)

Oscar is showing remarkable restraint in not squawking about all the commotion. Ralph wouldn't like the yellow tractor much (he's not fond of tractors and hates the small green one used here at the apartment complex ), or the bright orange clothing worn by the workers, but he'd probably enjoy all the interesting sounds coming from the worksite.
