We have come to realize that Cupcake abhors the microwave. She does not want us to use it. Anybody else run into this reaction? There's literally nothing else in the kitchen that she takes issue with!

OMG nooooooooo, not in my house. When Mr P sees me go near the microwave or the fridge, or the pantry or the sink, heck anywhere in the kitchen he starts hollering "Douwanna yummy? " and gets really excited. Is this a shocker to anyone?

Hahaha well, that's how Cupcake is with the fridge, pantry, sink, pretty much kitchen in general... especially if she hears us messing with a wrapper or something that might have a treat in it.. but if we open the microwave, or god forbid, turn it on... she will be giving us a piece of her mind to say the least.

Oscar has no problem with the microwave as he knows food comes out of there. I think I posted a picture of him helping me in the kitchen and he is actually right in the microwave exploring it... lol

See, this is why I find it so interesting, because she knows food goes in and out of it too. And food she is generally excited about. It almost makes me wonder if her bird senses can pick up the microwaves somehow and she doesn't like them... otherwise it makes no sense to me at all.

Ralph likes the microwave because it beeps. Anything that beeps gets Ralph's seal of approval.

Clyde doesn't see much of the kitchen, but I took him in it tonight so I could make coffee and he freaked out. I had to take him back to the birds' room, where he flew off my shoulder to his boing without even letting me get through the door.

Bonnie doesn't mind the microwave and can even mimic its beeping, even though we don't use it that often. But she HATES the coffee machine - when it's making a coffee she competes with it to see who can make the most noise.
Edit: The only really strong reaction she has to any appliance is...the vacuum cleaner. Talk about HATE at first sight!

Hmm... I figured I find at least one other case of microwave hating considering how dramatic Cupcake's disdain for the microwave is. She has few things that she reacts to so strongly. Interesting!

We so rarely use our microwave that I'm betting none of the birds has had an opportunity to form an opinion of ours.

Yeah, we rarely use ours as well... it used to be months would go by and we wouldn't touch it, but it's been in use a bit more than usual lately... maybe a few times a month on average, so maybe it's just the change in behavior she doesn't like.

Allie likes anything that makes an electronic noise. Peppy seems to be pretty indifferent to the microwave. He hasn't really seen it action, though. He tends to keep both of my hands busy when I cart him around, since his grip is not strong. So he perches on one arm and I sort of cup the other hand, at the ready, in case he starts to slip. Little reason to go into the kitchen if you don't have at least one free hand.

Cricket associates the microwave with morning so every time I use it he says "Good Morning!"
