Saturday was the third anniversary of Ringo joining the family and since I don't know her exact birthdate but can guess fairly accurately because starlings have obvious physical changes as they grow, I can guess her at around 3 weeks old at that time, making her 3 years old now. I didn't find any toys at the bird fair on Sunday that weren't just like the toys she already has, so she got as many meal worms as she wanted last night when I was feeding my lizard. I think my giving them to her, as opposed to her stealing them, might have taken some of the fun out of it. LOL So, tonight I'll let her steal them instead. She was having a crazy day, which is a regular occurrence with starlings, and didn't want to sit on me. Just wanted to bang her toys and chatter and whistle and zoom around the room yelling "IKE!" Other than meal worms, she's not food motivated, and I think stealing them is more important than eating them, because she often carries them to her bathtub and drowns the poor things and then leaves them there. She has plenty of toys. She didn't want to play with me but didn't want me to leave the room, either. It's hard to celebrate a birthday with a starling.

Yes, happy day Ringo! Believe it or not, I started to ask why you named her Ringo. Yes, I can be that obtuse!

I was going to call her Paddy/Patty because we didn't know if she was a boy or girl. You can't make an educated guess until a starling gets their adult feathers around 2 months of age or so. But when I suggested that to her, she was adamant. NO. I tried a couple of other names that were gender neutral. NO. So of course, being a Beatles fanatic with a dog (then) named George and a tiel named Johnny, I tried Ringo, and she said YES, she liked that one a lot. So "he" became Ringo for six or seven weeks until the adult feathers came in and ... she's a girl. Who knows her name and can say it. And it IS funny. For the record, I suggested Paul, figuring if she was a girl she could be Paula, but she hated that, too. And she's never gone into season and gotten a yellow beak, which is when you can be absolutely sure that your educated guess was correct, so if she ever does that and turns out to be a boy in spite of all the signs of being a girl, we're really gonna have a mess. I'm so used to saying "she."
