We went to a bird fair today and I got Rocky and Jade new toys, big bells on long plastic chains. Jade knew as soon as she saw me with it that it was hers, and took it away from me by force. We had a difference of opinion about where to hang it, and she flew onto my hand so she could chomp me (but she doesn't chomp as hard as Clyde and it didn't even bruise) and then onto my chest (!!!) but we got it settled and then she wanted to be snuggly and started saying "kiss kiss." So I let her kiss me and ... she let me kiss HER. On the top of the head! Several times!!!!!

Awwww! Who won the location argument? Does Clyde let you get away with not getting him anything?

Clyde isn't a big toy fan. He sometimes bangs one around when he's having a temper fit, but otherwise doesn't care for them. I've tried every kind imaginable. Benjy used to like toys but when he decided Clyde was his HEEEE-roh, he quit bothering with them, too. The tiels have a million toys already and prefer to tear up newspaper. Jade is my only big toy fan. Ringo likes toys, but she's got so many and she doesn't destroy them like parrots do, so hers don't need to be replaced very often.

That's amazing that Jade let you kiss her. Makes up for Clyde's disrespect of you.

Jade is going through another breakthrough phase. She comes over to sit on Maggie's cage or the boing to be sociable when I'm sitting in my chair being an organic perch, and she wants me to stroke her beak, and she gives me kisses almost every day. After all these years, I've given up that she'll ever step up or be cuddly, but I rejoice in every little tiny bit of progress. I've stolen kisses a time or two before, but she never just sat there and let me kiss her like yesterday before. I think she liked it!

What appears to be little steps to us can be great leaps of faith for them. You just need to go at their speed and don't have any expectations - they will always surprise you. I am so pleased for you and Jade - she is learning to trust you and you will learn to trust her. A wonderful journey for you both.

I wonder if Jade was an only bird if we could have gotten past all her issues by now. On the other hand, watching the others walk all over me and get kisses might inspire her, if only by jealousy. LOL

It doesn't really matter if she was an only bird or not - they go at their own speed - you only have to look at Izzie to see that you can only do small steps at a time with them. I feel that Jade is in the right home and she will learn from the other birds - but not Clyde You have done really well with all your birds, fish, lizard, dogs, etc. I just don't know where you get the time. You must have no time to yourself.

I don't. I'm either working, sleeping, or messing with critters.
