Hello,
I live in Todos Santos, Baja about 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas.
I just recently helped out a friend who discovered her drug addict tenants
had abandoned her property leaving behind 1 dog, 2 cats, 8 parakeets and 2
Quakers for several days before we found them all.
I¹m re-homing the parakeets into my friends restaurant in a new space he¹s
building just for them which will be quite nice.
I have many 20 plus years experience with a African Grey and a Blue & Gold
Macaw but have never dealt with a Quaker before.
They have nice large circular cage with a metal dome top probably 4-5 feet
tall. They have an incredible nest built now. They make solid eye contact
and fuss like hell at me for putting slices of fruit or veggies into the
cage or bars for them, I can tell if their just not used to treats or it¹s
all the upheaval in the life's now.
They had sunflower seeds but haven¹t eaten any since I brought them home,
just the mix seed food that all the birds seem to have been feed.
I¹m thinking about moving their cage outside into my old parrot cage from
Hawaii ( a 6 foot by 12 foot chain link panel cage with a 70% greenhouse
fabric top or cover that can cover the entire cage if desired. Our weather
here is coastal Baja with no winter ever and highs maybe into the high 80¹s
to 93 for a high. Our local bird population is amazing.
I¹m still trying to find out their age and origin, they might have come from
the US into Mexico or not?
I want to gain their trust so that I can began to handle and train them if
this is still possible at this stage. I¹m not sure if having 2 will lead to
aggressive behavior or this is just their being new to another home and
stress. Right now their very close the the parakeets who are very calm and
singing, etc.
Is is having a pair going to
make this much harder in the short run?
