Hello! I am so excited! I have had birds before, including 2 quakers. However, I haven't had a bird in my life for a long time. I am finally at a good place and I am ready to become a birdy's mommy again! SO excited! I have talked to a breeder, and will be going to visit my little fella next week. He (or she?) is only 2 weeks old right now. I forgot to ask her, does anyone know when they are old enough to go to a new home? Looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

Congratulations! It kind of depends on the breeder. They will usually want to make sure they are well weaned first, which normally happens around week 8-10, though it can vary. Some breeders will let them go before this, but it generally is not a good idea unless you have hand feeding skills already. By the way, that's quite a handle you have there, ddpyogachick!

Welcome to the forum. It varies as to when breeders will release their birds. I got Shah at 5 months of age - he went from the breeder to the petshop and I got him the day after he arrived at the petshop. I know you wont have to wait that long. Ring the breeder back and ask them. That way you will be prepared for the baby when he/she arrives. If you have any questions about quakers, this forum is the place to ask them. We are all here to help and support each other.

Welcome! We brought our quaker home from the breeder when she was just a bit over 8 weeks old. She had just started to eat on her own a day or two before. She also flew for the first time after we got home with her. I would not recommend picking up your baby until he/she is at least 8 weeks old (maybe 9), unless you are willing to handfeed, which is really complicated for someone who's never done it before (but maybe you have).

I'm anxiously waiting! Cage and toys are here, and baby is 5 1/2 weeks old. We are still waiting on the DNA test and I hope to bring him/her home in a few weeks!

I have pictures! I'm not sure how to add pictures though...He (or she) is about 6 weeks old and weaning good. Breeder says if all goes well, he/she will come home in 2-2 1/2 weeks.

We would love to see photos... For uploading photos-- you will need to upload them to a site that can host them with a public link (facebook, photobucket, etc) and copy the link for the photo once it is uploaded. Then when you reply (you can't use the Quick Reply at the bottom, you need to go to the full-blown editor), there is a little button to insert an image... it will bring up a box when you click it that has a place to paste the link to the photo. Paste it in there and it will insert the photo into your message.
