Just a quick question. Sonic in general is a quite bird. So much so he sleeps uncovered and doesn't make a sound until I'm up. Anyway, When he wants to be with me, he flies to my shoulder. When he lands on my shoulder he will squawk loudly for about 30 seconds, which is a long time when it's right next to my ear! Any ideas why he might be doing that?

Might just be excitement. Shah often screams when he does something he thinks is fabo.

Yeah, Cupcake does the same thing out of excitement. That's entirely possible. When we get home, she greets us with a squawk. If she is really excited to see us, multiple squawks in succession. If she is mad at us, no squawk. Just a few grumbly grumps.

He's just reminding you who's boss, or it's payback for some minor transgression prior.

I can't say why Sonic does that, but I did see wild Quakers doing the same thing. They would return en masse from some outing or other and commence to chattering upon landing on their roosts in a favored tree. Quite a din.

To me it is definitely excitement. I almost went deaf when I first got Oscar and he would sit on my shoulder while I prepared food or worked around the house. Holy crow... I remember sometimes really hearing bells ring after he would let off a loud one... right into my ear. It is a little better now... cause I screamed in his ear too.... ha ha ha... no... I am just kidding. I would never do that. But OMG I swear they could make a person deaf when they are excited.

Oh yeah, when they get a squawk right in your ear... ringing ensues for sure. I am sure it is not good for our hearing.
