So, I got Sonic a flight suit. Had no choice, long story I won't share here. Anyway, I can get him in it without any real problems. He chews at the Velcro all the time when he's in it. Anyway, he's doing it less all the time. I was just wondering if any of you have had any luck with flight suites. I have seen birds in flight suites that were used to them I guess, they acted like they had nothing on. What can I do to help Sonic get used to having it on.

I have one of those but Oscar is terrified of it. Not sure why the lady who used to own Oscar had it because Oscar has never flown. I saw a lady downtown with her bird in one tied to a pole... the bird did not look happy and I felt sad.

We tried a flight harness with Cupcake but she found it terrifying because it was red. We did not try again. I have no idea why the manufacturer would choose to make something like this red, when you could use a much safer grey or something. I later found that I could use pieces of this red harness as a deterrent to keep Cupcake from going certain places. She hated it that much.

I tried to put Shah in one a few times - he falls over and pretends he is dead. This kind of defeated the purpose.

Thanks guys, I guess we're doing better then I thought. I can get Sonic in the suite with not much problem. He is obsessed with gnawing at the Velcro. Lol, Shah falls over dead. We shall see if he can overcome that. I did take him outside yesterday, which he seemed to enjoy until the neighborhood kids saw us outside and came over to see us. He almost crawled inside my shirt. Lol

That's great! Man, I wish I could get Cupcake in a harness. I feel like she is getting fairly bitter about having to be in a cage or container when we take her outside. She used to enjoy it but now I feel like her frustration with the situation is starting to override her enjoyment, which is sad. We used to have such a great time taking her out to dinner in her carrier and sitting outside with her on the table. Now she just acts annoyed and sometimes kind of scared.
I guess I should try again... It just seemed so traumatic the first times we tried... but maybe that was simply because it was red.

To be honest, I know that flight suites/harnesses or about as unnatural as you can get with a bird. The first time I got him in it it was a bit difficult. That was my fault because I didn't really know how to put it on. I did try to get him used to being wrapped. I wrapped him in an old shirt for a bit every day and gave him more sunflower seeds then I should have while in the shirt. Maybe that helped. I think it's pretty cool to take Sonic outside without too much worry. Trickey though, some birds might get more stressed by having the suite on then any benefit they or we may get from taking them outside. As I write this, he is on his cage taking a nap, with his head backwards between his wings. (We talked about that in another thread.) Anyway, if you guys decide to try the harness /flight suite idea I would like to hear your experiences. Thanks, have a great day!

I agree, flight suits and harnesses are unnatural, but so is pretty much everything about the circumstances under which our birds live, so add it to the list, I guess Cupcake is definitely very used to being wrapped up in a towel, so maybe it wouldn't be too hard to get her used to a harness. I need to try one that isn't red.
