Finally we see spring time. All the birds have returned such as ducks, geese, black birds, starlings, gross beaks, tons of seagals, robins, finches, hawks and ravens. These are the ones I can see now. I live on a lake near a park so it is ideal nesting places for all kinds of birds. Also the lake still has ice on it, the birds have arrived and are paring up. It is so amazing to watch them. The ducks and seagals, do their dances in the water to impress their mates and many times the fight is on.
I put all my extra scraps outside for the birds to eat as there is not much food available for them yet. It was amazing to watch a huge black raven v.s. one white seagal as to who was going to get the bread. The raven is much larger however, the seagal has a longer beak... therefore, the seagal wins the food.
Robins are everywhere and only two will win the rights to my vegetable garden which I can finally see again as the snow is gone. I just adore nature.
Except for one vermon. I have a mole in my yard somewhere... and at night it comes out and goes just beneath the grass layer to find worms... and ruins the lawn at the same time. Once I find his main hole... I just pour some castor oil in it... and he will eventually leave... but until then... grrrrrrr.
It is suppose to rain for the next four days.... so that will get rid of the rest of the snow... and soften the ground...yeahhhh... the robins can eat too.

Me too! We are just starting to head into the colder weather here (one month left of Autumn), but it never snows where I live. I would love to live in the country away from 'Suburbia'.

It's been spring here for quite a while, and we've even had some previews of summer. This part of Texas is considered The South. In one of my bluebird nest boxes we've already had a chickadee brood fledge, in another a bluebird brood has hatched. In a third, unfortunately some fairly well-along chickadee eggs were abandoned when fire ants took over the box. First time I've had that happen. Phoebes built a nest cradled between two flood lamps on our back porch, and their brood hatched yesterday. Wrens tried to build their nest inside my husband's ball cap in the open glovebox of his four-wheeler, but we had to nix that one, much to my regret.
We get quite a variety of critters at the ground bird feeders. Opossum, armadillos, deer, foxes. We have moles, too, but out here in the countryside, what is yard and what is pasture can be blurry, and I just ignore them.
Turtles are on the move. I usually stop and just help them cross the road, but if they are crossing one of the busier streets I sometimes kidnap them and release them at our pond. I just hope I don't screw up their lives doing that!

Today Oscar got his first taste of fresh lawn grass. He just loved it. He usually just takes the grass and chews it for the juice and spits out the rest. Watching him walk on the lawn was hilarious... like ... what is this stuff under my feet. He would lift his feet so high... lol
I got to put his cage outside today under the umbrella... and he had a ball. The seagals were everywhere sqwaking... and the barn swallows were swooping everywhere... it was just a wonderful day. Oscar did not mind them at all.
Oscar loves to walk down the stone driveway.... and he headed straight for the road where I put food for the other birds. He can see them all the time from within the house... so he just had to go and see what they were eating. Of course... he didn't want any of it. Funny cause a lot of it was his own left over food... guess it wasn't fresh enough. lol.... but I just love watching him explore.
I have a few cedar bushes and he loves when I hold him close so that he can tear them apart...
What a perfect spring day. It was 20C.... and not much wind... awesome day. Tomorrow we are looking at 23C... so even warmer. I can't wait for another perfect day.

Yesterday was a great day for observing nature. I have a phoebe nest going in my carport, a second hatching of bluebirds in a nest box, and I saw the most beautiful dragonfly ever. All black lace and brilliant gold filigree. Oh, and a pair of green anole lizards going at it, and I don't mean fighting, on my porch railing. I admit it, I took a picture. Lizard love is just not something you see every day. I'm sure they were glad when I left them alone.
