Cupcake literally never naps. In fact, I think I've only seen her sleep in front of me once. She gets very relaxed and fluffy and certainly rests on one foot for extended periods of time... but never seems to actually nap around us. How does this compare to everyone else?
I'm assuming she must nap when she is home by herself, but I really don't know!

Sonic naps sometimes around me, not often though. Fact is, today was the first time I have seen him nap for real. That is head back in between his wings kind of a nap. Curious what the others say.

Shah naps if he thinks I am not around but if I am home he spends the whole day awake and yelling at me cos he wants me to do slave things (as I have nothing better to do - or so he thinks). He does get over-tired though and becomes even more of a grouch. Then I cant get him to settle down.

Bonnie sometimes naps after prolonged bouts of screeching.

The only time I have EVER seen Mr P nap is when he comes home from the vet..so that is twice, once last year, once this year. He was so funny, he didnt want to act like he was tired so he stood on his playstand with his wiffle ball pretending to be awake. I glanced over and his head was resting on the wiffle ball and he was sound asleep. I didnt want to move for fear of waking him up.
Other than that, when he is out and I am home, he never naps. Must run in my family, my daughter never napped when she was an infant and grandson #1 hates to nap as well.

Both my birds will usually nap some after lunch when I take them back to the darkened bird room. I read on my iPad, or nap , while they snooze a little. Otherwise, you rarely see them napping. That's one of the things that told me things weren't right with Peppy - too much sleeping during the day.

I have seen Oscar nap in the morning. I get up around 5:00 a.m. and he wants up too... but by 6:00 his is napping on my finger. He also likes a nap after his bath. Funny cause that is when they feel most vulnerable but Oscar wants to sit on my left hand and have my right hand cupped over his back and wings. I will rock gently and say... nice and warm... nice and warm... with a little humming... he will nap.

Ralph never takes a nap when I'm at home (and won't let me take one either ). When I'm out for a few hours, I suspect that he may doze off for a little while.

Interesting, so it doesn't seem too unusual that Cupcake doesn't nap in front of us. I have definitely never seen the head back between the wing position that you mention, Ricky... I might have seen her with both eyes closed on a rare occasion but it never lasts. I don't even catch her with her head between her wings if I open her cage up in the middle of the night. Perhaps she has always heard me coming, I don't know.
I wonder why they often don't want us to see them sleeping... Maybe just a prey animal thing?

I think it is absolutely the prey animal thing. I took it as a great compliment for Sonic to be that vulnerable with me in the room. I have had a lot of birds in my time and only seen a few others sleep like that outside of their cage. I wouldn't worry too much about it though. You like everyone else that I know of on here love her dearly and she obviously has a lot of love for you guys too.

Thanks Ricky. Interesting... I think I was somewhat misled by my parents' crazy cockatiel, who naps all the time all over the place, into thinking it was fairly common for birds to nap in the presence of others, out in the open, at least in captivity. But it really sounds like that isn't all that common.

One more thing I have noticed when Oscar naps... is that he will turn around and not face anyone. He prefers his back to us when he is ready for a nap. Funny cause when he wants something... he will turn his back to show us how pretty his is... as he dances around... and then he usually gets what he wants. lol
