Hi Forum,
I am a total newbie to the bird world, but have always wanted to have one. So I am recently divorced n was thinking it was time to look at getting a companion of the feathered type. I live in an apartment, so a dog is just not an option, as I don't like the idea of them being indoors all day while at work.. so on, etc.. My only experience with birds is a few different friends that had birds that I visited with, and fell in love with..( a Cockatoo, that was so friendly n awesome when I saw her and a few African Grays that where super fun to play with). So I did some research on the net, as I am a techie guy, and came up with maybe a Conure might be good for me. I stopped by a shop today that is just a bird shop. Been here in Phx, AZ for like 20 yrs and sounded like that know what they are doing. tropiczoneparrots.com/ They were super cool and answered all my questions.. So the reason I joined this forum is they had a about 2 yr old Quaker.. Blue in color with a grey chest and just very friendly. I think I will go back and spend some more time with him/her, as I don't remember what they said was the sex, but just seem to be a really good fit. The lady I talked to said it was about $1000, but was going to have to look it up and I said no biggie, was just getting an idea. The green-cheeked Conures ran about $450, more or less based on color. They had 4 to 6 month olds. So I was really taken by this Quaker.. really liked that they are more talkative then the green-cheeks. So I started googlein Quakers and came across a site that said they run about $500 for a 1 to 2 yr old. So my question is $1000 on the high side for a 2 yr old Quaker? I will have to ask more ??'s about him, as far as how they came to have him, but he seem happy and they have a huge play area where almost all the birds are out and not in cages, which I thought was really cool. The lady I was talking to cuddled with him n kissed on him n he seem to love it. Anyways, this has turned into a really long intro , but am happy that I found this forum, as it seems like a good place to find a lot of knowledge. Thanks for having this, and thank you for any advice that anyone can give on my new possible adventure!
