We have the exciting development that Cupcake finally actually ate some leafy greens! She had numerous bites of both raw and cooked chard. And she wasn't spitting it out! It was a humongous breakthrough.

That is a breakthrough! I'll have to give chard a try with Peppy. So far he's only sampled broccoli with some honey sauce. He also likes a Higgins snack that has dried greens it.

It is such a major occasion when they do something we want them to do (and that's good for them). That is a big step forward for Cupcake.

And it was totally unexpected. We offered it to her totally expecting her to spit it out like she always does, and for some reason, and I genuinely have no clue why, she just decided this was the day to eat it. Talking about broccoli with honey sauce is making me hungry. Tell me about it. I wish I could say it was due to any efforts of mine. Oh well, at least she finally gave in! Her behavior has been crazy good lately. It makes me suspicious.

That's a testament to your slavery skills, Aaron, well done! I've found that if I nonchalantly toss the food I want Bonnie to eat on our kitchen bench (rather than in her food tray or dish), as if it's part of our human food that I forgot to clean up, she almost always wants to eat it more...

Oh certainly. Human food always tastes better. Always. Even if there is something from your plate on their plate already... yours is better.

I have noticed one thing that makes quite a bit of difference in getting Oscar's favorites.... he loves food that is warm.... much more than cold food.

Yes, it is definitely the same for Cupcake... She would always prefer it warm. That said, soft, warm food can trigger hormones because it is so similar to what comes out when a bird regurgitates, so at least this time of year I'm trying to keep it to a minimum.

Gosh, Shah just shovels it in no matter if it is warm or cold. Plus he mumbles with his mouth full of food.

Good idea aaron...I am glad you brought this up. Too many hormones is not always good especially at this time of the year. There goes another chomp out of my ear... lol

Certainly not... for me the concern is egg-laying primarily, although I don't want her to be too tortured by her own hormones either. It already seems like the worst is over for Cupcake this year, though.
