I bought some cheap thin wood place mats and cut them up to be used for nesting. He spend all last week blocking off the entrances to the nesting box except for one little space. This morning everything is blocked off and he's mad at ME because they can't get in. Silly birds.

I never thought of using a nesting box with Shah. He doesnt really build anything - just rips up paper. I love the photos

That is funny. I think you're going to have to show him the secret to creating chambers and passageways, like his wild cousins do.

Reminds me of a news story I read a long time ago. Some college (after so many years, I've forgotten which) built a new gymnasium. It wasn't until the project was finished that anyone noticed that the architect hadn't included any entrance doors in the plan. Your industrious QP just needs to be reminded not to block the doorway.

Great photos. He looks just like my QP, Bonnie! This situation reminds me of what she does. We have an on-site caravan with annexe built on and there is a curtain separating the kitchen from the front/lounge room. Bonnie climbs up the curtain, using her beak, and manages to manoeuvre around its edge into the kitchen (where the food is, LOL). But can she figure out how to get back the other way again? Not a chance...I echo your sentiment - silly birds!
In the 2nd photo I think your quaker looks kind of pleased with himself.

Great picture. I have to say that every morning when I clean out Oscar's house I remove the Kleenex that he has soiled and then tuck some clean ones back in for the next evening. The Kleenex goes under the tie wraps that he has used to build his house with. Now... every single day, Oscar will spend at least an hour blocking the door way. He will use either tie wraps or cardboard strips. Every night before I go to bed I have to bust through the door way so that he can get back in. Should I forget to re-open the doorway... he will sit there and scream until I get back up and do it.
I often wonder if he is blocking the door way to stop me from putting my hands in there and disturbing his mess? or does he just get confused and thinks he is fixing things up? This is repeated day after day after day.

Whoa, Julianna, how many hours per day does all this take you?

Thanks for all of the comments Y'all. I came home from lunch the other day and he had actually blocked himself in the nest. Goober. But I think he's got it figured out now. He unblocked the round hole on the side so him and the wife could get in and out. Now she just has to pop out some eggs

How many hours does it take me? lol lol lol.... My entire day is spent either feeding or cleaning or building houses with Oscar. Luckily I am retired and do have the time. I will say though it takes Oscar a lot longer to close the door to his house than it is for me to open it. He is a very busy bird as he lives outside his cage all day long and gets me to bring him all over the house so he can explore and be with me. The only time he ever spends in a closed cage is when he goes to the sitters.
That is really cute how your little one is blocking the door Jefahfah. But I will tell you that Oscar blocks the door every day and he has done this for years.... He never knows how to open it again.... will he ever learn? I really do not think so.
