I just posted in the intro section but here is a very brief synopsis.
Found a Blue Quaker about a month ago. It came up to me for help.
Have looked for the owner and found out who bought it but the phone/address are no longer valid.
Very aggressive and traumatized but coming around some. Will step up on my shoulder as long as bribe it with a treat and doesn't always try to kill me now when I put my hand in it's cage (it's a gamble). It will now take it's favorite raw pumpkin seed treat gently from my hand (most of the time gently). Today I made a quiet kissy noise at it and it responded. Progress! It is fully flighted and does a quick round of the area it is in a few times a day.
I live in Naples, FL and the bird is also from here or at least it was sold from a Pet Supermarket here.
My dilemma is:
The bird can be loud and I work from home seeing patients via Telehealth
I live in a condo
I don't want to commit to a bird that doesn't like me for the next 20+ years. I'm 61 years old and the bird is around 3.
The local Parrot rescue, which is supposed to be good, said they would take it and hold it for the next 60 days (I rescued it a month ago and you are required to try and find the owner for 90 days in FL) and then they would put it in a general aviary with other non-adoptable birds. They state they do not have time to work with it to make it "adoptable".
I do think the bird wants to be a pet and is making good progress now that I have been with him consistently for a week (first week it stayed at Pet Supermarket and then I, unexpectedly, had to go out of town for 2 weeks and the manager of Pet Supermarket stayed in my home with the bird and my cats. However, I am not sure my house is the correct one for a Quaker Parrot.
So, if I could find it the perfect home that understands Quakers and is willing to be very patient with Kai (Ocean in Japanese) that would be great. It does seem to Love hearing other birds so maybe a home with other birds would be good but not necessary.
This didn't end up being short, lol, but there you go.
