Hatchling
I do not know what is needed on my profile. "Hatchling" - what does that mean?

I am getting a Quaker Parrot as a rehomed bird. She eats only Roudybush pellets-no veggies or fruit(which I think she needs-but I do not know). Has anyone had experience with Roudybush pellets- are they good? (I looked the product up and it sounded like a really good pellet but I don’t know). And what about fruit and veggies? (Previous owner said those things make them tend to be more sexually inclined. I don’t know.

Hi and welcome , those are good pellets and healthy for your Quaker. Adding fresh things to your parrots diet can be good for them, more veggies then fruit so not too much sugar. It’s true mushed food can be perceived as regurgitated food from a mate. I only withheld it once from Casey one hot summer week when his hormones kicked in, it only took a week of just pellets and early bedtime and he was back to normal He still gets a small mini serving of dinner each night on a plate on top of his cage. Some of the things he likes are broccoli, red and green pepper seeds, quinoa, rice potatoes and sweet potatoes and for protein he likes chicken ,turkey or salmon. He gets bits of what we are eating if it is unseasoned I guess you could try , it takes a while for them to learn to like things but if he ever shows hormonal signs take a break.

I don’t feed Roudybush but I’ve always heard good things about that company. My Quaker eats Harrison’s. He also gets one or two avicakes a day for treats and he likes some veggies: corn, peas, green bean, tomato, broccoli, pepper (esp seeds) and less fruit (mostly berries but sometimes nectarine or apple or whatever). He gets to share a bit of healthy human food occasionally, too. Like black bean, potato or sweet potato, squash, corn tortilla, baked chicken, baked fish.
We mainly rely on the Harrison’s and avicake and the other stuff is more of extras. I think it’s better to feed less sugar and less carb-heavy vegetables (corn peas beans) which are their favorites.
My Quaker may need to see fresh food a few times to be convinced it’s food.
