I'm sure that I've never mentioned before that Ralph has an aversion to a potato masher. When I make mashed potatoes I usually do the work in the kitchen where Ralph can't see when he's in his cage, but when I was making my Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, I mashed the potatoes on the dining table, across from Ralph's cage. He sat and stared for a moment before starting in with an alarm call. Later when he went into the kitchen to play in the cupboard, he spotted the masher by the sink and that earned another alarm call. I had to hide it under the sink before he stopped the alarm call and went into the cupboard to move the honey dipper around.

lol. That’s funny! Casey just has the usual alarm calls for ladders getting carried, shop vacs, neighbours outside nextdoor etc. wonder why Ralph hates the potato masher?

I don't know what it is about the potato masher that bothers Ralph. I explained to him that it's for mashing potatoes, not parrots, but I don't think I got through to him.

Huh. All my Quakers have had random objects that they don’t like. Today I used some gel on my teeth and Willow thought the tube was very scary. Who knows? What is worse is when you specially buy a toy and the bird decides it’s terrifying. Willow did not grow up with many toys so almost anything new is scary. I have a bunch of special toys that I can’t show him because they make him screech in terror.

I don't remember any parrot toys that Ralph really objected to. Mostly he's indifferent to them. Any new ones he will inspect thoroughly and his reaction is "OK. Not interested. Let's move on." Then I'll bring out something like the potato masher and get a QP alarm call. Try and figure out parrots.

With Willow, I think shiny metal toys or bright plastic toys are more scary. I tried to give him a chain made of palm leaves and he just pushed it away. The cute little shopping cart and basketball hoop I bought for him are TERRIFYING, though.
We have snow now and I’m waiting to hear from him when the snowplow comes around.
