In 2 weeks we will be picking up our baby Quaker, who will be 8 weeks at that point.
I wanted to know a few things if people here can help.
They say at 8 weeks they’re fully weaned, but I’ve also read that some people still hand feed them even at 8 weeks. Is this true?
What brand food does everyone here recommend for the pellet? Breeder is getting them used to Zupreem fruit blend. I’ve heard a lot of people prefer Harrison’s. I want to make sure he’s on a good diet with quality food.
Thanks I’m advance! I’m sure I’ll have many questions to come!

I think Harrison’s is a much better food and I would probably start a baby Quaker on Harrison’s fine high potency diet. It’s tastier than regular and the company says it’s easier to get birds started on it. Fruity zupreem is not as good for them and makes their poop stain.
I got my last Quaker (willow) at about 7 yrs old and he was eating seeds. I tried a few types of pellets but the one that Willow converted to was Harrison’s high potency. I had to eat or pretend to eat pellets and really enjoy them so he would try them. (Willow is avoidant of anything new.) but once he saw that all the COOL birds eat Harrison’s pellets he wanted some to. And they are a lot like grape nuts without the malt taste.
I hear that lots of baby parrots regress a little, needing some hand feedings, when the leave their clutch and go to their new home and big bird cage. I wonder if the breeder might give you a bit of dry hand feeding formula and a syringe if that’s how they feed. Otherwise, mushing up and warming the pellets the baby will be weaned to might get him to eat.
I can’t remember what else you asked about but I hope you enjoy your time with your adorable new Quaker.

Hi Rudi & welcome! I am in Australia and here we have very limited brands in the stores (only 1-2 in the mainstream stores). However, if I were to order from overseas I have also heard very good things about Harrison's. Our quaker, Bonnie, was about 8-10 weeks old when we brought her home from the breeder and we didn't need to wean her at all, she was already eating pellets by then. But the breeder had made an effort to introduce pellets and her parents had been pellet eaters as well. I agree with Heather that making a big show of eating something you want your quaker to eat is a great idea. They will literally bust themselves trying to steal it from you.

Welcome to the Forum. You'll soon discover that life with a Quaker parrot is seldom dull. The ZuPreem Fruit Blend pellets are popular with lots of parrots, including my QP Ralph. Ralph also likes Higgins InTune Natural pellets. Many people and parrots do prefer Harrison's pellets. The best pellets are whichever ones your parrot will eat.
