This evening we have a tornado warning after a thunderstorm last night that washed away the remaining snow. I had Jasper out for a long scritching and then went to get Willow. It was not yet his bedtime.
But Willow would not come out. He hunkered down on his perch and would not step up. Was pretty upset about me trying to step him up, too.
I wanted to give him one last “out” before bedtime but that was not to be. Now it’s thundering again.
It seems like they want to stay in their house or nest when the weather is bad. Willow is indoors but still maybe he can tell the barometric pressure changes?

It's possible that the change in barometric pressure is sensed by birds, including an indoor parrot like Willow. Animals are typically sensitive to extreme weather changes and severe weather.

Willow is a pretty shy guy. Maybe he would be a homebody Quaker.

Last nights weather quickly got quite bad. Howling winds and then a thunderstorm. All is calm today and both birds have been chatty since late morning.
I wonder if they can feel swaying or vibration of a high rise apartment building?

Ralph doesn't like strong wind. That's really the only weather related thing that bothers him. I think that it's mostly the movement of the trees he can see through the window that troubles him. Heavy rain might get his attention but it doesn't really bother him and he doesn't pay attention to it after the first couple minutes. The only thing about snow that he doesn't like is when enough of it piles up on the balcony railing and he can't see past it. He doesn't pay the slightest bit of attention to a thunderstorm. Today there were some big swings in the barometric pressure that bothered my sinuses but they don't seem to have had any effect on Ralph.

I’m guessing that birds can notice barometric pressure more than we do, since they have all those air sacs and sinuses not enclosed by bone.
I don’t know for sure but would be handy for a flying critter.
I notice barometric changes but I have pain receptors lining my angry joints. Who knows whether a similar mechanism yields a sense of unease or discomfort for a bird?

We’ve got another changing weather day today. Had 80f a week ago; snow and below freezing temps on Sunday and Monday; rain on Tuesday to wash away most of the snow. Today we expect thunderstorms.
Willow took a long time to settle down this morning and was climbing around. He was willing to leave my lap and his basket and look around! But usually he would like to stay on my lap all day. He was antsy so I returned him to his cage. We will visit more later.

The weather has been a roller coaster ride lately. Last Thursday through Saturday, the high temperature here was around 87 F/31 C. All three days set new records for this area on those dates. Yesterday's high was 46 F/8 C and today was a little chillier. We had some "snain" this morning, a cross between snow and rain, or snow that wasn't completely frozen. It's supposed to be back up to around 84 F/29 C on Friday this week then back to more seasonal temperatures next week. The changeable weather doesn't do much to improve my health or my disposition.

Me neither. And I got a pinch today from Willow. He was definitely in a mood.
