Hi! My Quaker parrot baby started biting so we changed to all pellets and chop with seeds only for treats. Got better but then started biting when bored on me. So I taught her tricks and target trained her but now seems she is so desperate for treats that she will perform tricks not at command asking for treats (I feel if she keeps turning she is gonna fall off 😅) and then will get frustrated and bite me. Any advice? We miss how it used to be when she would just cuddle and hang out with us - we feel now we have to be constantly entertaining her to keep her behaving
Thanks!
Belen

First of all, welcome! That's an odd situation and something I've never experienced. I don't have an answer off the top of my head but I'll give it some thought. Maybe someone else will come along with some helpful advice for you in the meantime.

It almost sounds like she’s hungry and has figured out that tricks get her seed. Is she at a good weight? Maybe you could add in a bit of seed to her diet, or even a nutriberry or avicake.

Our Bonnie is 9 years old now and she doesn't like the things she used to like. She seems to get bored very quickly and doesn't want to engage the way she used to in things like learning new words/scratches etc. Quakers seem to regress to biting behaviour quite quickly when they perceive they are not getting what they want (whatever that is at the time).
I think they do get bored and need stimulation, but it's difficult to know exactly what to change.
When I let Bonnie out of her cage I make sure I'm not distracted by TV/phone, or she absolutely hates it....with good reason, as I think it's rude not to pay attention to family members, expecially as she is most of the day in her cage. My husband is often on his iPad when she is out and she gets quite cranky.
Other than giving your bird your full attention I don't really know what the answer is...but I often think these days that humans shouldn't breed birds to keep as pets. However, we do the best we can - as you do - hopefully your baby will become more settled as time goes on.

Yes. Both my birds will tap and later bite me if I’m ignoring them yet they’re out on my shoulder or hand. I figure they’re not in their fun cage or playgym so I ought to be paying attention to them. I don’t like a bite but I also acknowledge that I’m being rude…
I reread that initial post in this thread and wonder if the young bird could be given a high potency diet. Bird should not be frantic for extra fat and calories if needs are being met.
