So Cupcake has had looser droppings in the past 3 days, and this morning we finally noticed that the solid part had become less solid so we took her into the vet today. They did a fecal gram test which came out negative, and bloodwork is pending. Otherwise she seems fine, but we are leaving on Thursday to take my step-daughter to Disney for a week, and Cupcake will be with my parents, and if there are any issues I want to know about them and be in front of the matter, so we didn't want to delay. She was a trooper at the vet. I could tell she really did not want to be there, and she struggled a little when they were working with her, but there were no bites, and she basically cooperated throughout. Afterward she was extremely sweet and cuddly and very sleepy and wonky, and just wanted to be held, basically... although by the time I put her to bed tonight she was starting to return to normal a bit. So far it does not seem like I am in the doghouse for subjecting her to this vet visit. Perhaps that will come with age as she realizes that I am indeed going to keep subjecting her to such things over the years.

Hope Cupcake is okay. That was good that she managed to cope with the vet.

No bites to either you or vet = successful visit in my books!

Thanks! I hope so too. Her droppings have a bit of a uric acid smell lately, so currently I think her kidneys may be struggling a bit. She has shown mild symptoms of kidney issues in the past.
I'm really not sure why she would be having kidney problems though... a large part of her diet is lentil sprouts, which are high in protein, but beyond that, I can't figure what would be causing her to have kidney issues, unless they just never really adequately healed in the past.
But yes, her behavior was very good. She was a very good girl. Honestly it amazes me because her primary memory of being taken to the vet and then separated from us while they took care of her was when she fell to the ground (the last and only time we got her clipped years ago) and cracked her beak open and they had to grind it down for her... Somehow she seemed to not find that experience too traumatic. Personally if I were her, that would have freaked me out big time and I would never want to go back... I guess on some level she must have recognized it as helping her.

Be well, Cupcake! Doesn't it seem like these things come up at the most awkward times?

Thanks guys... the timing is quite poor... but she will be okay-- whatever it is we are catching it very early. I just don't feel like getting a phone call about it in the middle of vacation and potentially having to try not to worry about whatever bad news I get. Hopefully nothing is wrong.

Good luck to you and Cupcake. Let us know if you figure out what is causing it.

I am really impressed with Cupcake's and your stoicism with all this. She certainly has been through the wars and Kudos to you for looking after her so well.

Thanks for your support guys, we appreciate it... Unfortunately it's going to take 5 days to get the bloodwork results, so we aren't going to know for a little bit.

Cupcake has been dropped off at my parents' house! It feels really weird having a bird-less home. At least I know she is having a nice time there.

Trying!! It's hard. And this is the fifth time she has stayed with my parents... you would think it would get easier.

I still have a very sad heart every time I have to leave Oscar with a sitter. I used to cry as if I was loosing my baby. Coming home is always the best of the best... watching their reactions when they see you return... omg... priceless. Think of those happy times.
