It was 9 years ago today that we brought Bonnie home from the breeder, at approximately 8 weeks old!
She learnt to say “Hello!” within a week & a few other things over the next few months.
She still surprises us sometimes by coming out with new sounds (copied from native birds). We never actually set out to teach her words, though, we just wanted a little bird companion.
These days Bonnie seems to delight in NOT talking in front of us…sigh. I guess she’s in her teenage years in parrot terms.

Willow agrees with you about talking in front of humans. That should be a rare treat, if used at all, to keep the humans interested.

Happy gotcha day Bonnie! She learned to talk fast and it’s neat she copies the native birds. No cool parrots here in Canada for Casey to copy but he does a very good rendition of the squeaky kitchen drawer

Well, hubby & I actually forgot on the day 🥹 (even though we’d mentioned it several times to each other over the preceding weeks/months). But she does get nice favourite foods every day anyway & isn’t much interested in toys, so we just said Happy Gotcha Day to her the next morning & gave her extra attention. 😬

Happy belated birthday Bonnie.
