It is a high protein, low carb., no sugar flour. It is easy to make. The recipe is on the internet on how to make almond bread. I use the Bob's Red Mill Almond flour for the recipe. You can request it be sold at your grocery stores near you. It is a great bread flour recipe for parrot's diets because there is no sugar, low carb, low cholesterol, high protein diet. Almonds are good for the heart health as well...so the Bob's Red Mill almond flour is the perfect recipe for a bird's healthy diet. The less fatty seeds they eat, the less likely they are to get the fatty liver disease. I think you should request this. It is low budget flour for your parrot. It is cheaper than buying the full loaves of regular wheat bread...so it willl be good for your parrot too because it is cheap and it lasts longer than premade bread in the grocery stores. You can look up the recipe on how to make almond bread too-no yeast necessary for a good recipe on this bread. Thanks, have a good day. Good health to you and your parrot too!

Thanks for the idea!! I have seen this at the store before. I bet the birds love it! My only question is how the fat content is, since it is a nut based flour... Any idea?

There are 13 grams unsaturated fat, but you have to consider that almonds are good for the heart as well, and that parrot's seeds are fattening in a bad way too.

Unsaturated fat lowers bad cholesterol. It is the good fat.

This is true.. Only reason I ask is because of the Quaker susceptibility to fatty liver disease... What kind of impact do you think it would have there? Seems like it might be ok.

Well, I would assume that eating alot of avocados for a person(not a parrot) which are loaded with unsaturated fat, that it would be okay..so likewise for the parrot. I was told that eating unsaturated is okay for you and also lowers your bad cholesterol. Okay, to be specific, seeds involving sunflower seeds have saturated fat which says 6 grams of saturated, but almonds have 3 grams of saturated fat. The fat in nuts is polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fats, but because there is not much of the almond flour in the recipe, it is good. There are other ingredients in the almond bread listed in the link below that are unsaturated fats as well. The almond bread is gluten free as well. You can look up the grams of fat for the almond flour yourself as well. Protein contains 4 calories per gram. Fat contains 9 calories per gram. So, overall I think that snacking on the almond bread throughout the day would be better than feeding a parrot a variety of more saturated fats in seeds. This is specifically for parrots who refuse to eat pellets. Thanks, have a good day. www.elizabethrider.com/almond-flour-bread-gluten-free/

Ah, I see. I agree, this certainly makes sense for parrots that refuse to eat pellets. Far better than seeds. I bet the birds love it!

I think bread is not too hard of a sell for most parrots. I give both of mine chunks of Harrison's bird bread as a mid-afternoon snack.
