So when Sammy sits on my shoulder, he has a tendency to go for the mole on my neck. Today he made it bleed with one of his little pinches. I know he is probably mistaking it for something that can be picked off, but how should I deal with it? I have tried telling him "Genlty" and making a buzzing sounds. I am now thinking I will set him down on the floor everytime he does it and not let him back up to hang out with me for a few minutes. Do you think he will get the picture if I do that? Any other suggestions?

Yes I think he will get the picture. They really love to pick on anything that is abnormal on our skin and that means the little hairs on my arms too.

What Sammy is doing is pretty typical for a QP. They want their human slaves to look their best, so anything they think shouldn't be there has to go. That may include moles, scars, scabs, tattoos and hair. Setting Sammy down for a while when he gets too enthusiastic in grooming you may work-- it's certainly worth trying. I did succeed in getting Ralph to understand what "gentle" means, but he doesn't always follow that suggestion.

I say 'gentle' to Shah and it doesnt make any difference. He has taken to sticking his beak up my nose and pulling on the hairs. He does it so quickly that I dont have time to stop him. Kissing me one moment, beak up nose the next. This is taking beauty therapy too far

Like has already been said, it's worth a try. I have tried this with Sonic, it has not worked yet. Consistency is key when training any animal. Good luck, keep us posted.

Cupcake does seem to understand "careful", but like Ralph does not always abide by the suggestion. I have had a cold sore one time in the three years that I have had Cupcake, and she still tries to bite off the cold sore that obviously isn't there any more. But she was so deeply affected by its presence that she still remembers its location and goes for it periodically. It seems like a pretty deeply instinctual drive that influences our QPs to try to remove abberations from our skin, etc.. I think you will have some success with Sammy, but with grooming stuff it seems like even if they really understand, there will always be a decent chance of relapse
