I had to have a small surgery on my big toe the other day and to see Oscar's reaction is priceless. First I have to soak it twice daily in water and Epson salt so when Oscar saw this he runs down on the coffee table to check it out. You know how.... when they look sideways they are really focusing in... and this is what he was doing. Then he just had to get down to the floor .... so I lowered him onto the towel (under the pan of water) and he chewed the towel and bit and then checked out the pan. He touched it with his bill... and then thought he should climb on the rim. I told him "get down" and he did... up again.. and "get down".. and he did... one more time... up he goes (only one foot) and I say "get down" and he does.
He nibbles the edges of the pan while walking around it... and I wiggle my toes in the water. Too funny to see his side-eyed stare... he is totally amazed now. He walks around the pan... and I am chuckling to myself... and he comes up to my ankle... and flippin bites me on the ankle... lol lol lol.... I never expected that. Guess he was saying.. get out of that water.
Today I take my socks off... and he comes running to check it out. I show him the bandages... and he gives me the side-eyed stare.... for a long time. I wiggle my toes and lift them up a bit... so he can see better.. and he runs away... lol lol... When I tell him mommy has a boo boo... he checks out the toe... looks at me... looks at the toe... and runs away again. ha ha ha
I don't think he cares too much.. I think he wants to eat my bandage. lol

Oscar probably wondered what your big foot was doing in his bath water.

The one time I had a bandaid on my finger Bonnie lunged at it and tried to peck and bite my finger....sigh. You just cannot have anything on your body that your quaker thinks shouldn't be there.

Too true Biteybird - if there is a bandaid anywhere on me, His Royal Thugness has to remove it. That was such a funny read about Oscar. He must have gone to the same nursing school as Shah

Oh man, having a band-aid on is like asking for another wound.
Actually I was really impressed recently when my wife seriously cut one of her knuckles and had to have a bandage on it for a week... Cupcake handled it better than she had ever before. I think because we spent a lot of time trying to explain to her what it was for. But she only bit it a couple times. In the past she would have been obsessed with trying to remove it and the wife wouldn't have been able to hold the bird for the entire time. This time she was still able to pick her up and give her head rubs and such. So... progress I suppose.

When I give him my explanation of why I'm wearing the Band-Aid, he nods in agreement, then goes back to trying to remove it. I remind him that the Band-Aid has to stay, and he says uh-uh and continues to remove it. I then tell him that he's a big help, and he nods his head again.

Cupcake does seem to listen more when two of us try to deliver the same message at once, maybe that's why it worked. Or maybe it was a total fluke. Does Ralph actually know how to remove the band-aid or is he still biting you in the process inadvertently? Cupcake does not seem to understand that if she bites the bandage that she is also biting what is under the bandage.

Ralph mostly works at the edge of the bandage, but naturally, I sometimes get an inadvertent pinch in the process.

It's like she forgets there is a finger in there.

Exactly aaron... they forget there is a finger in there. Now when I have to wear and bandage, I make sure Oscar gets one of his own. He just loves to tear them open.

Julianna, you are a psychological genius...we find, too, that diversion is always best.
