Johnny either has a huge crush on Maggie or he hates her and I am not sure which it is. No matter where she went tonight, he followed and stood under her very beak telling her off in a big way. He chased her off his cage. He chased her off Freddie's cage. He chased her off Clyde's cage. She ended up on the curtain rod, and he stood in front of her absolutely reading her the riot act. She pulled her head in and let her eyes half close to indicate how unimpressed she was, and pecked in his direction without connecting a couple of times, and he just kept ranting and raving. It was hysterical. He has rules about where she can be, and his, Freddie's and Clyde's cage are not allowed. He will sometimes let her sit in Benjy's cage, which she has lately chosen as her place to lay eggs (she's laid FOUR in the last couple of weeks!!!) but just as often he won't allow that, either. He's generally very mild mannered and just follows Freddie around helping tear up newspaper, but when he's in Cop Mode, Maggie is hardly allowed to exist. I don't know why.

That's really unusual - if you said that Maggie was giving Johnny a tough time I would believe it. These cockatiels are full of surprises. Pippin is 12 years old - I have had him for 10 years and he started saying "step up" a couple of days ago. I thought it was Shah but it turned out to be Shah's Arch Enemy (Pippin is the sweetest bird you could meet.)

Johnny is still chasing her around and she just knocked over a bird house (I have a collection of them in that room) running away from him.

Is it possible that Johnny has decided that Maggie is his 'woman' (and therefore bossing her around)?

Maybe Johnny is confused. I watch the courtship of a local mockingbird pair every year, and it is starting up here now. It always includes lots of mutual chasing.

If he followed her around all the time, I would agree, but it's when she goes into what he considers HIS territory that he does this. And he lunges at her with open beak, so that's more threatening than romantic, I should think. However, she pays him back. He and Freddie like to steal her food and if she happens to notice them doing it, she comes charging after them and they scramble to get out of her way. Large angry pigeon queen is not to be meddled with. LOL

Everybody is out of their cages all day and they steal each other's food constantly. Whatever is in somebody else's dish has to be better than what's in yours (even if it's the SAME THING, LOL). Maggie takes over Benjy's cage and just sits on his floor cooing while the tiels tear up everybody's newspaper and Clyde holds court on the boing with Benjy by his side. So the tiels have the freedom to steal her food without her seeing them do it unless she happens to be waddling around on the floor or coming back to her cage for a snack.

OMG, I can just see Clyde with his apprentice, Benjy, sitting on the boing observing what everyone is doing - ready to correct their behaviour at a moment's notice if The Chief Bird disapproves.

Including MINE. I narrowly missed an ear chomp tonight for talking to Freckles the betta. Clyde disapproves of fish in general, but he has a special spite against poor Freckles, or maybe I should say, against my paying any attention to Freckles. He grumbles when I pay attention to the Horde or the wizards, but I usually only get chomped when I talk to Freckles.

I narrowly missed an ear chomp tonight for talking to Freckles the betta. Well, you should know betta! I picture your house being a kind of madhouse equivalent of an ape enclosure (with the inhabitants' attendant, complex behaviours), except that they can all fly as well as bite. Again, I'm forced to daydream about the ultimate Soapie in the making!
