Normally Oscar has a very nice bill. He sands it and polishes it almost daily. Today I noticed that the edges of his bottom and top bill were discolored and of course I got quite concerned. I start thinking... is it his food?... loosing health over something? It takes only 10 minutes to discover that Oscar had gotten a hold of a pen... pulled out the tip... and got ink on his bill. Geeeezzzz what next? I checked out his tongue and there is none on there and I guess all I can do is let it wear off. Sorry... no vet in this Northern community. Any other ideas? I did give him wet paper towel to play with and hopefully some will come off on there. I must keep closer watch on him.

If he usually keeps his beak nice, he'll take care of it himself. What a stinker. LOL

I agree. If he didn't get any on his tongue, it's a fair bet that he didn't ingest any...he'll have some pretty lipstick on for a few days.

If you are concerned about a specific substance that your bird has ingested, or a particular household product, you can call the ASPCA poison control hotline... It is $65 per call, so it isn't cheap, but they are very knowledgeable about the ingredients and toxic factors in various things in my experience. So far all they have ever done is put our minds at ease when Cupcake does something like get into the toothpaste, but that has been worth it. Here's the website that has the phone number: www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-controlThat said, I doubt the ink will pose an issue for Oscar. Just wanted to mention the hotline.
