I've been having trouble with cloudy water in one of the fish tanks and I was kneeling in front of it checking on it when Jade unexpectedly landed on my shoulder. Clyde, naturally, flew over immediately to put a stop to that and chased her off. Benjy was on her cage and to relieve her hurt feelings (I guess), she grabbed his wing and shook him. I yelled and scurried over there to rescue him and she let go and he flew away and he's not hurt. Oy. The DRAMA.

She's forever doing something like that and he just won't learn to stay off her cage. Part of the problem is that at times, they get along fine and play a game where she pretends she's coming at him but it's just pretending. He can't know the difference. I don't know the difference. Nobody else will get anywhere near her because she's such a bully so Benjy's her only sort-of friend in the flock. And he'd rather hang out with Clyde.

That is so spooky. I was thinking of Benjy this morning on the way to work and was going to ask you how he was. Poor boy, he will never learn. At least she didnt hurt him.

Clyde doesn't mind if Benjy or Maggie or even the tiels sit on me, as long as they don't take "his" spot. But Jade is his sworn enemy.

I suppose Jade will always take it out on Benjy for whatever reason, maybe the 'domino' effect? Bugger birds, they are so cheeky! (Sorry, non-Aussies, 'bugger' is generally intended as a humourous, non-offensive term).

Jade took it out on Benjy that time because he was handy. She pulled Freddie's tail a few days ago and last weekend she grabbed Johnny by the wing and shook HIM. The tiels' favorite toys for, um, "special time" happen to be on top of Clyde's cage, which is next to Jade's cage, and Jade objects heartily to this activity (she never indulges in it herself, that I've been able to catch her at), so whenever the boys get up there and start, um, well, you know, here comes Jade to chase them away. Johnny didn't scurry fast enough last weekend, and she punished him for it. I was in the room and I scolded her, and he got away fairly fast, but this sort of thing is why I call her a bully and why none of the other birds likes her. And yes, I have tried to move the tiels' "special" toys to another cage further from Jade and Jade also objected to that, violently, so I had to desist.

Jade reminds me of an elderly lady who lived in the apartment above my grandmother's. If she noticed someone who seemed to be enjoying themselves in any way, she'd do her best to put an end to that nonsense.  |

That's about the size of it. LOL I was trying to flirt with the tiels last night and first Jade barged over and chased them away so she'd get the attention instead, and then Clyde barged over and chomped the back of my neck so I'd stop talking to Jade, but he was too mad for me to talk to HIM. He was cussing in Quaker under his breath and I knew better than to try to reason with him in that mood.

No offense meant to any real Gladyses - it all makes me think of the neighbor on Bewitched. Though she more just nosy than anything else. |

Jade definitely has a similar personality. I remember Gladys Kravitz well.
