Hello all, I am making Sonic the following birdie mash. All ingredients are organic,1 package of oatmeal, kale, carrots, bell pepper, flax seed, and about a half a teaspoon of honey. Sonic seems to really like it. I would like to know what you guys think of my recipe? Anything I can add to make it better? Anything I should take away? As always, thank you for any advice you can give.

It sounds pretty tasty to me. I would use as little honey as will make it palatable to Sonic. It has more calories per unit than white sugar, though it is better in some other ways. I don't personally know if there is anything to it, but some people are concerned about the bacterial content of raw honey, and I would be giving only pasteurized just to be on the safe side.

I like this recipe! Agreed on what easttex says about the honey -- although I personally do think that some honey is okay, you want to keep it to a minimum probably. Especially if this is something you plan to feed Sonic on a daily basis.
I have read that raw honey has high levels of botulism bacteria in it and is not safe for birds... but most people seem to think that pasteurized honey is okay. There is a subset of people that say that any honey is a risk because some botulism can be present even after pasteurization, but I would guess that it is pretty minimal.
