Unless something drastic happens, Pele the Pionus is going home with his new family tomorrow afternoon. I actually have mixed feelings about this! I am so glad that he has found a new home. I have had many conversations with his new parronts to be and I am 100% sure they will love him and give him a good home. I will probably miss him, he has finally gotten comfortable here, calling his little flock call when I leave the room and actually acting happy to see me in the mornings. Although I have not gotten him to step up on my hand yet, he will willingly step up on a handheld perch and happily spends the day away from his cage, on a playstand, talking to the folks he sees outside walking by and watching the other birds. I know that Rick (boyfriend) will miss him but this does clear the way for another foster! I am looking at fostering a Goffins Cockatoo next, there is one on the Rescue wait list. It will be another month or so until I'm ready for another foster as my daughter will be giving birth to my 2nd grandchild in the next month and I will be headed out of town to help her out for a week or so. If the Goffins is still available when I get back, then I will welcome her into my home

Awww. I've been wondering about Pele, but was afraid to ask. I'll miss the updates on him. I hope he is treasured in his new home.
When I adopted Allie CAG, I had to choose between her and a Goffin. I was torn, and I still wonder about him. I've been told that Goffins tend to be a little less high strung that some of the others, but don't know how true that is.
Bye Pele, best of wishes to you!

Aww, good luck Pele! Fostering a Goffins would be awesome. I've always been really intrigued by cocaktoos.

I find the bigger birds like full sized cockatoos and macaws a bit intimidating, which is why I"ve always been interested in Goffins and the mini macaws. It's rare for a mini macaw to come into rescue, a little less rare for a goffins so hopefully this one will still be available when I am ready.

Those beaks are definitely intimidating.

You've done a fine job of preparing Pele for his new home. Here's hoping it will be a happy and loving forever home for him. I can easily imagine how difficult it could be to "let go" of a fostered parrot. As I've said before, I know I'd become so thoroughly attached that it would be impossible for me to give up a parrot.
