Hello friends, so Sonic and I had a breakthrough yesterday. He came out of his cage on his own for the first time.that is he came out and made it clear he wanted me to pick him up. That was pretty cool. Today he has been the same, wants to be with me. I just made him some birdie mash for dinner which he would not eat unless it I gave it to him. When I did, he started making like a really soft "drrrrrrr" sound. What does that mean? Anyone else ever hear their bird do this? As always, thanks for any light you can shed on this.

I'm thinking that Sonic was purring-- the sound of a happy, contented Quaker.

My thought exactly, Gary. I get this sound most reliably from Peppy when he is enjoying his head rub. A huge reinforcer for me.

Yep, sounds like a Quaker purr. That is definitely a very positive sign (and one of the cutest and sweetest things our little QPs do, in my opinion)

Clyde does that sound when he's preening my hair and plucking my eyebrows. Cosmetology is an abiding interest of his so he's very happy and content when he's practicing his craft. Sonic was expressing his appreciation of the food or your obedience at feeding him by hand, or maybe both at once.
