I ordered a flat perch, like a wood platform, for my canary because she has trouble perching and to entice her to try it, I hung a spray of millet so she had to sit on it to eat the millet. Trixie LOVES millet and at first she tried to hang on the edge. It took several tries, but she finally figured out she could stand on it flat. But she was not happy that I took her favorite perch out and replaced it with this one. I was getting The Eye of Disdain big time. So I put her favorite back in next to the platform, hoping she would sit on the favorite and see that millet on the platform and not be able to resist for long, and would eventually spend enough time on the flat one to realize that it was easier for her to stand on it. We'll see if that works. However, she went to sleep on her favorite, as usual.

When I went in to turn their light on this morning, Trixie was on her platform, all comfy and settled down on her little tummy the way she sleeps. Hooray!

I don't expect her to sit there all the time, but I wanted her to have the option and realize it's easier to balance for when she does want to preen or snooze and not worry about trying to perch at the same time. She's still giving me looks, though. Perhaps she's trying to tell me I'd best not get any notions about moving her favorite perch ever again. LOL

Trixie is making me suspect that canaries are smarter than quakers...
