My quaker loves to floss my teeth. Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Does this sound disgusting to you? We have really bonded and it is automatic when he gets on my shoulder.

Greetings and welcome! I have certainly heard of this behavior... and I wouldn't call it disgusting That said, you should be aware that the bacteria in your mouth can be harmful to your bird... I can certainly understand the temptation to allow the bird to do this, but it does pose a risk, unfortunately.

Oscar used to do this also... but aaron is correct .... the bacteria we carry can be harmful. I also read however, that quakers temperature is quite high (hot little guys) so that is why they normally would not catch our illnesses. Their bodies would burn off the infections. Oscar also loves to pull hair out of my nose... and yes... that is also disgusting but hey... least I don't have to do it now. lol

I have been told that human saliva is not good for birds. Is that true? Obviously one makes their own decisions but I've heard it from many different sources, including the rescue that I foster for

Human saliva contains gram-negative bacteria, which is harmful to birds.
