Hi everyone,
I need help? I am about to buy a Blue Quaker parrot. But my trouble is whom should I buy from? I have two options I don't know which way to go? (1) To buy from a reputed breeder who has a one year old bird? OR (2) Buy from a trader (sort of reputed) who has a younger bird, he is saying the bird is about 3 months old.
My questions are (1) Whom should I buy from a breeder with immense knowledge. Or a trader who is a well known in the breeders circle.. but at the end of it he is a trader. (2) If I buy from the breeder I don't know how the bird will bond with me as he is already a year old. Will this be of any problem with bird bonding with me? or vice a versa? He has only one bird. He being a breeder at least I am sure about the health of the bird, as this was one of his many personal birds. He is willing to give me this as he is saying he cant give the bird much time because of other birds he has. This is the youngest bird he has so he is willing to give. (3) Traders bird is like I have to go with what he gives me. He has 4 of them and letting me choose from them. But I still don't know from where they are? And how healthy they are?
Please help me decide from whom should I buy?

Everyone has their own opinion but if it was me, I would go with the older bird. Sounds like he has been hand raised and breeders are usually very helpful if you have problems. Shah was 5 months old when I got him which I thought was a bit old but everything worked out just fine - but then, he picked me. I also got a hand raised cockatiel when he was 2 years old and he bonded with me without any problems (he is now around 12 years old). Good luck with your choice. Look at both birds and then make up your mind.

Mr P was a rescue and he was 3 when I adopted him. Even with an unknown background he bonded to me with no problems. I'd go with a bird from a breeder.

I don't have any recommendation either way, but I wouldn't be too worried about the one not being able to bond with you. Any of them that are reasonably socialized should be able to forge a new bond. Just be sensitive to the situation, i.e., if one you take in is currently bonded to someone else, it will feel the loss and may need some time to respond to you. Please let us know what you decide!

I would probably go with the breeder. If this was one of their personal birds, it sounds like there is a good chance it has gotten excellent care. There may be a bit of transition time, but I would not think you would have any problem getting that 1yo Quaker to bond with you. Just be patient with the little bird, because like easttex said, it might already have a bond with someone. But that will not keep it from bonding with you in time.
We got Cupcake at 9mo, and had absolutely no trouble whatsoever getting her to bond with us.

I agree with the majority... go with the breeder. I received Oscar when we was almost 2 yrs. old and the owner gave him to me for the same reasons the breeder is giving you. They simply did not have the time to give to the QP as they would like to. This shows that he really does care for the bird and I am sure has taken as good as possible care for him. Bonding just takes a little time but with lots of love and attention you will win.
