Pele and Rick bonding. It has become apparent in the last few days that Pele (foster Pionus) prefers my boyfriend to myself. He would no more sit on my lap and eat pumpkin seeds than he would fly to the moon.

Oh dear. That was unexpected. So I guess Pele has found his forever home? ?

Obviously Rick will have to keep his distance. Just who does he think he is? Actually, this might be the perfect opportunity for Mr P to remind you what your role is (namely, servitude to him exclusively).

It makes me wonder if Pele would be better off being adopted by someone where a man is the primary care giver. Jan, Rick spends most of his time at my house, that means MY HOME is his forever home. Can't have that happening. One good thing about this, at least it shows that Pele is capable of interacting semi normally with someone. I still havent been able to handle him, except by targeting him to a stand or perch. He lunges at me if I hold an arm, hand, or any other body part up to him. Sometimes he lunges at me just because. I'm pretty sure he doesnt like me at all. But we all know that is the nature of the beast, these guys like who they like and we really have no control over it.

Peppy has an apparent gender preference. He really is happiest when my husband is around, though he doesn't handle him. I can't imagine why. You're sure Rick couldn't adopt him? One person, one bird, sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

Actually, I just got word from the Rescue that they have an approved adopter who is interested in meeting Pele. The adopter is male. When I speak to him, I will explain that Pele still needs some socialization and if he is still interested (the whole story is on Pele's bio on Petfinder) then we will arrange a meeting. If Pele doesnt try to take off this guy's hand, arm or face, it's a match made in Heaven!

And, I spoke to Pele's potential adopters and explained the situation. They are coming to meet him and hopefully take him the end of February. That gives me another whole month to convince Pele not to hurt his new people when they meet him

Thanks, I'm excited! THIS is why I foster! Although I am always sad to see my fosters go (Pele has worked very hard these last few months) I am thrilled when they find their forever homes.
