Hi Folks
Am owned by a 5 yr old Blue Quaker
I just got my entire house windows replaced, in Toronto, Canada Had relocated my quaker to my parents house before the work started The house has a faint odour of the caulking that was used to seal the windows and patio door Just wondering, when would it be safe to bring my quaker home. have read a lot of articles about birds dying from caulking vapours have openend all the windows to ventilate but cant keep them open too long as its winter here, and I dont want the pipes to burst do you guys think 24 hrs should be OK? 48 hrs? any ideas would be really appreciated
Thanks vm
Kind Regards

I wouldn't bring my bird back as long as I could smell it. Because of the way their lungs work, things that are easily expelled from our own lungs are retained longer in theirs. I would take a very conservative approach.

If you can keep the bird at your parents' house, do so as long as you can... Do multiple ventilation sessions of 24 hours if you have to... But like easttex said, if you can smell the caulk, don't bring the bird home. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks vm folks have convinced my parents to keep him till the weekend and will be doing multiple airing sessions (its interesting to watch my thermostat go from 22 to 5 in 15 mins) :-) odour is dissipating for sure, but as they used caulking and wood filler, dont know about the origin of the smell so will try and be very cautious His room, (yes he has his own bedroom ) is already smell free, but the downstairs still smells a bit, so will keep him away
Thanks vm folks really appreciate the advice
Take care

Glad to hear your parents can hang on to your little one for a bit longer. Glad to help!
