Corona was fine yesterday early afternoon. At 6pm he was dead. He was only 13. Any ideas? He was just at the vet 3 weeks ago for annual exam.

I am truly sorry for your loss. That would be devastating. There are so many possibilities, but really just one way I know of to get an explanation. That would be talk to your vet about having a necropsy done. Have you considered that?

He said there are so many variables...He said since I have no other birds that could be in danger of the mystery he wouldn't do it. I think I am just going to let it be.
I just expected to have him 25 years...

I know what you mean. A number of years ago my lovebird died suddenly, by all appearances at the peak of health at about ten years old. I had counted on his company for at least another five years! Some of the things I considered were toxins - no Teflon, but did I use a hazardous cleaning substance too close to him; dietary issues - he was on pellets and seed mix when I got him, but had been raised for a few years on seed only. Or it could have been a stroke or heart condition. He, too, had regular vet care. I asked for a necropsy, but unfortunately he was cremated by mistake, so it will always be a mystery. You obviously took good care of him (the annual vet check is the tip-off ) so try not to be hard on yourself while you grieve your loss.

So sorry for your loss. Not so long ago I lost my cockatiel, Rebel. She was fine when I got home in the afternoon and then when I went to give the birds their supper an hour later, she was dead. It was such a shock as she was still warm. (I must admit I did try some massage in the heart area to no avail.) Sometimes these things just happen. You dont know the genetics of the bird so it may be something that you couldnt have done anything about. Dont beat yourself up over this - it sounds like Corona had a very special home.

Birds are so good at hiding illness and injury that there might have been something you didn't know about it. I'm so sorry. We do understand how hard it is and our hearts grieve with you.
