Any advice on the best way to bond with Pumpkin, he is desperate to be out of his cage, after being in aivary for six months the cage must be a shock to the system, but what is the best way of approaching the taming aspect, he will already take food offered by hand. Is it just a case of time and persitance. There is no doubt that I am prepared to give the time, just want some pointer in the best way to do it

I recommend you start teaching him to step up. He will like the one on one attention, and you'll get the single most useful behavior from him. Let him come out of his cage on his own, and then start training. You can begin here: www.quakerparrots.com/2008/training-quaker-parrots-to-step-up/Just remember to keep it positive and fun for Pumpkin. At first, reward him for any move in the right direction. Keep each session short, but do it several times a day. You can also look for videos on YouTube. I recommend looking at those by Barbara Heidenreich.
