She managed to steal the ESC key off my laptop! >:DThis despite me closing the lid every time I leave it. I just noticed a few days ago it was gone, so I checked her wall ledge where she stashes all the things she steals, but no joy. I already replaced the rubber covering over the keyboard after she pecked holes in it and worked out how to peel it back to get to the keys beneath (great deal for 2 replacement ones off EBay). I found a website that I can order a replacement ESC key from - cost for the key is about $3 and postage from the US to Australia about $30! For the life of me I can't work out how the little blue devil got it, as I've been so careful. I guess I'll just get by without it. And Sellotape the edges of the rubber keyboard cover down so she can't flick it back with her beak.

Just the escape key? You're lucky. Gumbo (Sun Conure) got the Ctrl, F1, and ESC keys from my notebook. I didn't realize bird had got any keys until I noticed while typing and she bird had Ctrl key in beak. I got Ctrl, and found EXC key, still pressing just the F1 button.
Birds are neat.

Oscar destroyed the "end" key. I tried to get a replacement but no luck. I eventually got a new laptop and guess what.... "end" get is broken again. I know it was my fault by not watching more closely.... cause Oscar cannot fly therefore.... I put her on the table... my fault.

About five of the smaller keys along the top row are loose and sticking up because Bonnie also pulled the plastic clips off the back of them (which is why I use the rubber cover to hold them down). And you guessed it, I would have to buy replacement clips separately to the keys...from overseas again. An expensive exercise I'm too complacent to bother with. I can't believe what opportunists quakers are and how fast they can be.

They are extremely determined. I have threaded so much stuff through the bars of Shah's cage to stop him from biting it but, at 5.30am this morning, I hear the plinging sounds of the cage being bitten. I give up. Try looking through electrical shops, etc., to see if you can get a similar keyboard. Will give Bonnie a new challenge!

Yes, might have a look for a 'decoy' keyboard to distract her...I remember in another thread that Gary suggested we all buy up used computer keyboards/laptops to market as parrot toys. They certainly seem to hold an attraction for quakers. Jan, Shah is obviously way ahead of you, so you may indeed have to gracefully admit defeat on the cage bar twanging.

He rarely comes into the room where I have the computer, and the keyboard slides into a neat drawer, out of sight and out of harm's way.

I think my problem is that Bonnie keeps changing her tactics. She APPEARS to lose interest for weeks at a time, hence my vigilance wanes...boy, am I a dumb human!

I have literally replaced the keyboards on the three laptops in our household at least eight times over the past couple of years. Unfortunately I recently have acquired a new laptop on which the keyboard cannot be easily replaced and I am terrified Cupcake will get to it. I basically have trained myself to close my laptop when I get up from it nomatter what the circumstances are, even if I know Cupcake is asleep in the other room-- laptops stay closed in this house!
She will pretend that she doesn't care about laptops for long periods of time, but she's just getting better at waiting until the perfect opportunity presents itself. Can't fool me! (Okay she's already fooled me numerous times... I'm slowly catching on.)

(Okay she's already fooled me numerous times... I'm slowly catching on.) And there it is! Obviously I need to retrain my brain. Funnily enough, I'm beginning to regard quakers and their noise and behaviour as 'therapy' . Went to Tasmania on holiday for a week and....geez, it was quiet and even boring! My brain kept imagining a quaker squawk every 3 seconds. Maybe I've got early onset dementia.

Yeah, it's really more about training the humans than the bird. I agree, vacation is weird without the bird. We go to the beach every summer and my parents take Cupcake (they have a grumpy 25 year old Cockatiel) and despite the opportunity for peace and quiet, and not constantly having to be on high alert to keep track of her... we are constantly talking about her and checking in with my parents to see how she is (she loves visting them). I frequently hear/feel Cupcake flying by even when she is fast asleep. Brain can play some crazy tricks on you

Update - now my Sony Vaio looks like this: [am trying to insert photo, but I'm not sure how to do it] As you can see the ESC key is gone. There's also a bit missing from the left corner. I think it had a crack there from me dropping the laptop, then Bonnie managed to pull off the piece. Sigh. I could get another laptop, but the same thing would probably happen & this one works fine still (apart from the ESC key, of course ).

What model is it? You might be able to get a replacement keyboard if you decide not to replace the whole laptop. It varies, but it's generally fairly easy to install them and they aren't too expensive.

It's an E series. SVE14AA11W. Yes, you might have something there; it'd probably be cheaper than replacing the 5 keys that are loose (with the accompanying missing clips). I hadn't thought of replacing the whole keyboard - I guess I assumed it would be difficult. Maybe not!
