OMG! My quaker, sonny, went probably a whole year without letting me touch her, although she would step up on my finger the previous year. Last week, she was on top of her cage and I was talking to her, then I reached out to pet her. Of course, she bit me. But I didn't pull away, and I was already close to her so I started to pet her, and then it finally dawned on her that maybe the world isn't "out to get her". So much has changed in just one week, I have never had so much hope for my little (25 yr old) baby. Now, she not only steps up, but she grabs onto the front of my shirt and pulls herself onto my shoulder! 20 years ago, when my grandmother first got Sonny, she would have her sit on people's shoulders or fingers. I can't help but wondering if I taught her to be more social, or if she just remembers and misses human connections. Either way, it's truly remarkable and I find myself feeling like a "proud mama"!

Well done, Sonny and Sarahlee! Sounds like you are giving Sonny what she needs. Onward & upward!

Thank you! I can't wait to teach her as much as I can, and all of your experiences with your quakers(that have been shared on this site) have undoubtedly helped me save mine.

That must be very rewarding! It's an inspiration for me with my own unsocialized senior.
