I smiled when I read that some quakers can be territorial.... cause Oscar is very territorial to the point of scary. I must tell you about the first time Oscar went to the bird sitter.
She has two smaller birds and one quaker. All of her birds can fly but Oscar has the advantage of being the largest of all the birds. Oscar got along fairly well with the other quaker cause if he tried anything mean the quaker would fly away and vice versa Oscar would stand and be ready to fight.
But one night when the sitter was putting the birds away, she had Oscar in his cage and was rolling him over to the bedroom when one of her little birds landed on Oscar's cage. Well ..... within seconds Oscar was up at the bird and bit it's toe off. OMG I felt soooooo bad that this happened. I had told the woman he was possessive of his things and for sure his cage and food.
She explained that it was awful at first as her bird was bleeding and she was running around getting the corn starch out and by the time she had the bleeding stopped the bird was covered in white starch. Sounds funny.... but I am sure it was quite the trauma for her. She laughs now and she knows it was her own fault because she had been warned by more people than just me especially when a new bird comes into the house.
I thought for sure I had lost the best bird sitter ever..... but this woman was so kind and understanding.... Oscar is still allowed to go there. Whewwwww. You can be sure that she takes extra care now and I think Oscar enjoys chatting with the other birds too.

OMG, you must have been mortified! Bonnie is pretty good that way, EXCEPT when we go to change the food/water dishes - she's so fast that if our fingers are in the way they'll be pecked through the bars for sure. We don't know why she does this, but she goes absolutely FERAL!

Kermit is the same way, very possessive of his food dishes. I can't reach in to pick him up either. He has to be on the outside of his cage, then he steps up no problem.

I guess I got lucky Romeo has not really been territorial this far (knock on wood) . He gets upset (growls) if a stranger comes in the house, and he says "no no no no" when I switch his toys around. Although I have to say I think Romeo has a thing with toes because if he can see them he attacks.

Haha, this makes me laugh because Bonnie is very interested in toes (she doesn't see mine very often, because I always have cold feet and rarely wear sandals/thongs). Each time she sees them she looks intently then, suddenly...peck! OUCH! The little pain in the ass!

Poor Benjy (the budgie) has had two toes bitten off and one permanently crippled thanks to Jade. He manages in spite of it, but he has a flat shelf in his cage to perch on and prefers my flat hand to sitting on a finger. I tried everything I could think of to keep him separated from her, but he hated living in the room with Ringo the starling (and Ringo hated it, too), I can't keep him in his cage all the time, and the one friend who said she would take him has four in a cage that's not as big as I'd provide for one, and never lets them out. Besides, I love the little brat and didn't really want to give him up, though I would have for his own safety if I could have found him a home that would take good care of him. But now he and Jade have come to some kind of understanding, and while she lunges at him if he's on her cage, it's more of a game. He sits there and taunts her and she ignores him a while, then lunges, with closed beak, and he flies away and she bobs her head and chuckles.

Yeah Romeo nips a lot but the only time he has ever really bit me was when he got my poor toe He does not mind if said toe is covered with a sock he will still go for it! I have since learned my lesson and I keep my toes very well hidden

Is it common for a Quaker to pick up toe biting behaviour? I'm not a fan of socks, and would prefer not having to put them on when I'm around Pipa

Oscar prefers my toes when they are in the socks.... lol... and NO... they are not stinky... lol.... He chomps through the socks and down to the nails... bites a few pieces then he is happy. It felt nice one day and I sorta dozed off and when I got up... he had gotten carried away and there was blood in my sock... ha ha... that will teach me!
Remember what they say about quakers..... if it runs.... they will chase it. Watch out toes.

I always wear slippers when I'm in the birds' room because they are indiscriminate about where they poo, and because Maggie flings her seeds from one end of the room to the other. Once you have stepped on pigeon seed with socks or bare feet, you want to avoid repeating the experience at all costs. OUCH. So I don't have to worry about having my toes bitten. The one who's really bad about that is Ringo, who has more than a mild case of OCD. She will peck at the same spot over and over and over AND OVER with that pointed beak until it bleeds and then peck it some more, and shooing her away has no effect and she just comes comes and pecks again. So I wear slippers in her room, too. Perhaps I should invest in steel toed boots for her room, because even with slippers on, her pecking of my toes smarts. However, it's kind of funny to wait for her to get really involved in pecking toes and then wriggle them. She yells "IKE" and flies straight up in the air. LOL
